How do I use a conexant adsl modem with OSX? Is it possible?

I have been given an unboxed Conexant Speedcall+ (Adsl Router) (1usb, 1 ethernet port).
Is it possible to connect this to my Apple Mac? Where can I find the required drivers or program to help me?
He's lost the CD's, Ideally I'd like to hook it up to my xbox as well. Then I can ditch the USB 1 I have.

If it's got ethernet then you should be able to just plug it in... most routers have a web-based interface as well as ****ty setup CDs.

You'll prob need some ISP specific settings but *shrug* maybe checking the Conextant site for a setup guide or something.

Routers don't need drivers.

Just looking at the conexant site and it seems to confirm that they make chipsets not specific hardware. Googling for that router model produced **** all results. Is that the exact name of it?

Yup, I've spent half a day looking for stuff on it. Conexant do the chips and it's packaged by SpeedCom+
I've tried getting in to its web based interface, using http://10.0.0.1 - but it just hangs. Any other suggestions of how I can get in to it?

It just hangs? Are you trying to view it in Safari? It might not be compatible...

What are your network settings? Stuff like IP address, subnet mask and router address for example. Is your Mac set to use DHCP?

I think I'm confusing myself, after setting up a usb modem and ICS - this seems too hard!
Do you mean the router might not be compatible? This is quite possibly true, even if it isn't I'd still like to use it for xbox, minus the mac.
My mate had his xbox running through it, but had a mare setting it up and got someone to do it.
What settings do I need, and what should I be setting my mac to, eg DHCP etc.

Sorry, when I said it just hangs, I meant it came up saying the same thing if you try to access the web without having your modem turned on

It's genuinely easier than fecking about with a USB modem etc but without a manual and some no-name router you should expect a few teething problems.

I'm not saying the router is incompatible... the whole idea of ethernet doesn't depend on Macs, Linux or Windows. What I am saying is the web-based control panel you get with some routers doesn't work too well with Safari.

I take it you have it connected to your Mac via the ethernet port... If so go to System Preferences, Network and Built in Ethernet then TCP/IP

Tell me what info is listed on that panel...

For Airport mine looks like this but for built in ethernet it's similar.

EDIT:

If I remember correctly you set up static IP stuff for ethernet so that Internet Sharing would work. It's likely you'll need to re-enable DHCP to configure the router.

I did what you said, also changed it to DHCP, unfortunately where on yours you have numbers, ip address, subnet & router etc. I have nothing but blank spaces! Anyway around this?

Tried restarting the router and the Mac?

Do that and check again...

If still nothing set the Mac IP to 10.0.0.2 the subnet to 255.0.0.0 and the router address to 10.0.0.1 and try to access it's control panel via a webbrowser again.

What lights are lit on the router?

2 green lights for power and 100 (ethernet) a blinking yellow 1 for LNK - I think this needs to be solid, rather than blinking. Will try your suggestion above.

LNK is probably for DSL sync... you haven't connected it to your phone line yet I take it? It should indeed be solid green.

Look on the back for a reset pin... Putting it back to default settings might be a good idea.

Have tried connecting to phone, but LNK still flashes.
Still can't access the settings after changing the ethernet settings. Believe it or not, it dosen't have a reset button!

Well, without having it in front of me that's all I can think of. Normally routers are a total piece of piss to set up.

If it's not syncing with DSL or giving you an IP in my opinion it's ****ed. Can you check if it works at all plugged in at your mate's house?

yeah, it worked fine at me mates house. He only stopped using it because he got a free 1 from BT. I remember him having trouble setting it up, and in the end he got someone in to do it.
But it works fine after setting it up, just can't set it up!! Cheers anyway.

Fair enough mate... it's just if it's not syncing or giving at least an IP address to the Mac it's hard to see it working. All of that stuff is independant of the fact that you have a Mac and not a PC.
