Is your copy of Madden Pal?

I think I remember that some Pal games run stupidly fast on NTSC machines. Its something that has happened on all consoles.

If its not that, I reckon it must be something to do with 50/60hz.

But it's still a PAL machine outputting NTSC video.

Unless he's used ConfigMagic and actually changed the machines region to NTSC of course.

The only thing I can thing of like that is if Madden PAL is optimised for 50hz play; it runs at the correct speed in 50hz. Running it at NTSC speeds would run the game faster. The only example I can thing of like this is PAL Mario Kart on the SNES

That'd make sense assuming the game can switch to 50Hz if the Xbox was set to PAL60 - can they do that?

As far as I know, yea. In theory, a game could ignore all the settings and just do what it wanted.

edit: If this is true, selecting a PAL mode on a box with only NTSC-modes available might go ignored and run in 60hz anyway causing the **** up.

further edit: does the game look any different when running in NTSC? Some games I've seen that screw up sometimes over-draw the screen (like PAL Sega Rally on the Saturn) or the ratio is incorrect.

nope, graphically, the game draws fine. now you mention it, its a pal version and my xbox is set to NTSC region AND video mode. perhaps i should have it PAL region with US video?

As an aside, my mate has just modded his Xbox, downloaded PES4 and was saying that when he switched it to NTSC output for prog scan, it ran a lot quicker than in PAL.

Sorry, I meant I have mine as a PAL machine with only the video mode changed to NTSC.

actually, to update, it is just "some" games.

Burnout 3 runs fine (and looks lovely I have to say) im running mine the same now. NTSC video, PAL region

Think I must have been tricking myself that BO was runnign too fast, i timed a run and its ok

I have modded my PAL Xbox and switched it to NTSC. When I play PES4 (original disk) it runs a lot faster but I want to output prog scan. I need it normal speed to play on LIVE.
