    Progressive scan/HDTV

I'm a little but confused here: is there a difference between HDTV and Prog Scan TV's or are they the same? If I wanted to get a TV in the UK that supports the higher res (Xbox) what should I be looking for?

    Cheers

    A display that supports 480p, 720p and 1080i

Nearly all Xbox games support 480p and a few support 720p and 1 or 2 support 1080i.

HDTV is basically High Definition (720p and 1080i) 480p, which is your basic progressive scan. There are some CRTs that will support 480p, but if you're looking at getting a TV that supports 720p, youre looking at a pretty pricey plasma, but not many Xbox games support it, and you need it chipped.

Most TVs that can accept Progressive Scan also can show HDTV.

A Progressive Scan signal is not necessarily an HDTV one - for example GameCube can "only" output 480p. This is standard definition, but Progressively Scanned so the picture is still a huge improvement.

Anything higher than 480p is HDTV. 720p is HD -and- Progressive. Likewise, 1080i is HD but Interlaced.

So they're not the same thing, but they usually are seen together.
