    my SNES is broke :(

well, basically, my SNES has been working fine for a long time, only the occasional blow-in-the-cart-socket job was needed a couple of times. It's not even especially dirty. Anyway, the last game I played was Street Fighter II (PAL) which worked fine...

The other day I tried to play it again and it loaded the intro (asin the Capcom logo) and then...got...stuck. So now it only loads the intro/first few frames of SFII and doesn't load any other games at all. Although, if I try to play a US or Jap game with a convertor, and use SFII as the PAL game (which goes in the back of the convertor) it again loads the 1st few frames of whichever foreign game I was trying.
So it's kinds a bit like the BIOS has been formatted to only accept SFII (or a game being run using SFII) and only load the intro... or something

is there anything I can do? My mate just told me to leave it for a week, as it would eventually mend itself again

    thanks in advance tho guys

Not sure if its the same problem but my snes started acting up and freezing on weird moments along with freaky graphical glitches. I gave it a clean and it works fine again now.

did you open it up with one of those weird screwdrivers or just an exterior clean?
what did you clean it with?

hmmm...may have to invest in some Jif

They sell replacement edge connectors, don't they? Might be worth a go.

I've got a bunch of SNES machines. I just switch if one acts up.

Edge connector is most probably at fault, look inside to see if any solder is cracked, or if the pins are compressed, another trick is you could rough up the edges of your carts with sand paper, (don't do it TOO HARD YOU WILL BRAKE THE CART), to create rougher metal to conect with the pins on the edge connector.

                wrt to contact cleaning;
this might help in the short term, but long-term will shag the cart - using the sand paper will clean off oxides & other dirt, but will also remove some of the gold plating or passivating layers, which will just make the problem worse. A proprietary contact cleaner & a piece of kitchen roll will be much less harsh, and do a better, longer lasting, job.

If you are serious about your games (like everyone else here!) buy yourself some contact cleaner... it's great stuff.

If you want an edge connector, I have a couple spare. I'll check to see if they still work.

yeah, but I'm talking about if the Cart connectors are already worn, roughing them up "fluffs" the metal, it can make an already worn cart last longer.
                    I'm not reffering to dirt.

Hi, had a quick dabble at a clean but didn't use any specific cleaner or anything, so I'll try properly later.

Just wondering though, if it's a general dirty contacts issue, how come it loads (albeit not much) with one game yet nothing with any others.... bearing in mind it loads it even if it's not directly in the main cart socket (ie: via a convertor)??...

                        baffled tbh

tried a crappy clean job and didn't really work. Tbh I've been really busy to get round to having a proper go...

if I'm replacing the edge connector do I need to open up the console (and use one of these - http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ducts_id=1475& ???)

still don't understand why it just did it suddenly :/

any questions answered would be great, thanks

Sounds like the cart is moving once it's booted. Jam a 1p piece (leave half of it sticking out of course and remove it along with the cart!) in front of the cart to stop it wobbling. I had to do it with my PAL machine before I bought my SFC Jr.
