Yeah, someone ported Doom to the iPod, and there's a Gameboy emu too.

Plus you can run Linux on it.

      Evening all,

I am considering selling my iPod nano to my dear friend who wants one for ?90 yet I have a slight problem:

I sold my iBook a few weeks ago and all the iTunes songs were on there; how do I delete the songs on my iPod nano then? Do I have to re-install the iTunes program for my PC and hope for the best that the songs pop-up on the playlist automatically?

      Thanks to anyone who helps!

get that ipod updater thingy from apple:

The latest macOS offers the world’s best way to play — and add to — your collection of music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, and more.

but it's about 50 or more mb - just choose 'restore'. better still, if you have your ipod nano's install cd, it's on there too (well, it should be anyway!)

or, put itunes on and stick maybe one song on there, and tell it to update the ipod automatically and it'll delete all the songs and put just that one song on there

ooor (and this is a more dodgy method) i used to just plug ipods in and quick-format them in windows with fat32 and they'd be fine. the ipod software and folders would be created on the hard drive when you reset the ipod, although i wouldn't really recommend this in case the newer ones don't work like this. if you do try this method and it cocks up your ipod, just run the ipod updater and choose 'restore'

        BTW

i've joined the 5th gen league today. got a lovely brand-new unused white 5th gen and i've left the sticky plastic stuff on it and i'm **** scared about it coming off

anyone got any recommendations for a case/skin? i tried the light grey soft case that comes with it but it's too tight and it started peeling the plastic cover off (only a little and i stuck it back but it'll do more damage over time i'm sure)

If the iPod has disk mode enabled, then go into the hidden folder that contains all the songs and delete them by hand, is another option.

I take it this person is a sufficiently vague aquaintance that you really don't want them to have access to your tunes, then?

Anyone know if an iTrip exists for the Nano yet?

EDIT - Nevermind, found one now!

I know how you feel about yah tunes, ive donated my mint 4th gen 40 gig pod to my bro and want to delete them, its jus my music is so personal to me that if others have it all and experience the emotions i felt whilst listening to them then i feel robbed of my feelings. Selfish i know but those are my feewing as mine alone! Grrr..........

Dont mind a few songs the same but the entire lot?

Actually ive created another proofile on me PC for another ipod to plug into but how do i drag songs from one profile to another? Cos my new profiles itunes music folder is empty.

Need advice on 2 pieces of kit:

(1.) What's the best (cheapest?) cable to buy for hooking my 5G video iPod upto my TV so I can watch it?

(2.) Is it possible to hook my iPod upto my car's CD player which has an auxillery output? If so, which cable do I need?

Don't get me wrong guys, but I do not think you understand my problem here:

I sold my iBook a month ago that had all my songs on it. That's gone.

Since then I have done nothing to my iPod and I need to delete all the songs on my nano: how do you do this? I can't even get the songs to appear from my iPod to the iTunes on my PC - how do you get that to happen?

This 'restore' command - where and how do you get to this? I installed my CD and it simply asked for my details (name/address/e-mail) and then I restarted the computer. That's it; nothing else popped up or a menu appear out of nowhere.

                  Thanks.

Jus plug yah ipod into the PC and it will delete the songs automatically if you have auto update activated. If not jus plug it into the PC and go to yah itunes and delete away.

Oh wait, you want to keep your files? or delete them on your ipod? IF you dont care about yah music currently on and want a clean slate then the above is fine.

ET - does your iPod appear as a drive when you plug it into the PC; i.e. do you have Data Mode enabled? If so, there is a hidden directory on the root of that drive that contains all the music. Copy it off, delete it, do whatever you wish.

Just install the latest iPod updater from Apple, and choose "restore" from the options available. Should format your nano from Mac (HFS) back to Windows (Fat32), removing all of its contents in the process.

Wow, that took so long to do but I manage to delete the songs by endlessly looking for the 'restore' command to find the songs were in an automatic state on my iTunes before magically disappearing - one of the strangest thing I have encounted this year.

Thanks for all your help everybody.

                          :EDIT: Oh ****-a-doole-doo!

Can someone tell me how to get rid of the photos also please.

I'm trying to convert an .avi file (formerly an .nsv file that I fixed into an .avi) with vp6 codec to MP4 for the iPod but I just can't get it done with any program.

Go to transcode the file with Videora and it says complete but the file is obviously 0kb.*

Can anyone suggest a method of getting this file onto my iPod, or perhaps offer some insight into how I can get an .nsv video file into an appropriate vid file?

*I'm 99% sure the reason it's not working is because the .avi has vp6 codec which is required to play the certain .avi in the first place.

Right stupid question thats prob been asked a before and i think i know the answer anyway, but is there anyway of transfering music to an ipod without a computer? Surely some bright spark has come up with a mp3 encoder that hooks up to a hi-fi to which you connect an ipod to? Or is it impossibe?

I thought there was a recorder add-on for the current Video iPods, but I can't find it now, sorry.
