    my powermac b&w g3 won't boot!

    ok i've narrowed it down to the processor - a formac proG3 @ 500mhz

initially when i got it, it worked fine and would, about once a week, not boot up without turning it on and off a few times

recently, it just won't boot (psu turns on, as do the hard drives, but no chime and no display). it's not the ram as i changed that, and it's not the graphics card as the machine chimes with or without it

wondering if anyone here uses a blue and white powermac g3 and would be willing to either lend or 'hire out' their processor to me for a day or two (i'd pay postage both ways too). my motherboard is configured for a 350mhz processor, but the proG3 processor has switches to set the speed. also, the heatsink was glued to the processor. i managed to remove it but i can't reuse it without gluing which i don't want to do

anyone have a spare heatsink they're not using?

tia for any replies given regarding this.

PRAM? Battery on the motherboard? That's all I can think of for now.

hi. tried those, but still it wouldn't boot. see, the odd thing is it will boot 1 in 10 times or so, or maybe even 1 in 15, whereas initially it would boot on, say, 9 in 10 occasions.

i've done the battery thing as the zapping the pram via the keyboard would require the machine to actually boot wouldn't it?
