    Advice about X-Box Bioses

'lo there, After getting SF:AC for my chipped X-Box, I'm after taking it onto live. Only thing is, I want to make it absolutely idiot proof so that I won't get banned on live the second I turn on my machine with the chip, So that's why i'm looking around for one of those bioses that have a feature to block live stuff when the chip is activated.

quick tech specs - 2003-made X-Box, installed with a X-Ecutor 2.3 chip (or whatever Will2003 was using in summer/late 2003), And it's got a locked 120 gig drive in it.

So, what would be the best bios to use, that has this live-blocking feature? I'm happy to look into any further details of my machine if needed, providing I know what to do.

Please note, I'm only looking for a name - I'm perfectly capable of finding this stuff through the usual sources, and linking to such places will only lead to this thread being closed. Of course, if this thread subject still breaks the conditions of posting in this forum without links, the moderators can feel free to close it if they so wish.

    Thanks for your time!

You want the Xecuter 4981 or 4983 BIOS.

Lovely Yod@, thank you for such a quick response.

now, for some other quick (read: stupid) questions:

      1. the Xecuter 2.3 has two bios banks, it seems. some questions about flashing those:
      a. If I flash bank 1, would I be right to assume that bank 2 will be intact?
      b. If anything ****s up on bank 1, would switching to bank 2 let me use the X-Box, at least until I sort bank 1 out?

      but now TEH ULTIMATE QUESTION:

      2. ...those sodding *charge* moves in Street Fighter (Hyper 2 or 3S, whatever, I'm talking about those moves that Guile/Urien/Remy/****ING BLANKA/etc. do). Is there any "shortcuts" or techniques in using moves such as those, or am I forever doomed to holding back for 3 painful seconds, resulting in getting a proper beating from experts?

You dont hold back for 3 seconds doing nothing - (it's shorter than 3 secs actually) - the key is to make it look like you're never charging but always have one in the bank ready; most basic example is to keep throwing jabs while holding back. There arent any situations where you are stuck for 3 painful seconds.

The way to play a charge character is to buffer charges into your movement. You can charge in any situation, there's nothing stopping you from charging while jumping forward, in the middle of combos, crouching or whatever.

Starting a charge on a jump wont give you enough time to complete the charge on landing, but throw a deep jumping attack into a standing/crouching attack which can be cancelled an you get the extra time to finish your charge and you can tag the move on as you like.

Charging also has a dead area where you are free to add something between down/back charge and forward + attack:

        Suppose I'm Alex, I want to connect down-up +K
Charging is either down or down-back for this move, so I hold down back to make Alex crouch and block.
I'm now vunerable to jumping attacks so my opponent jumps in to land a deep attack.
When the move is about to connect I release charge to hit forward to parry then tap up + K to activate the charge move and it will activate. The neutral motion of a charge attack is open and has been since SF2. You can connect a standing attack into Flashkick with Guile for example.

You need to go into training mode for a couple hours and learn to buffer in your charges, how to disguise charging and how to combo charge moves.

Thanks for the advice, Saurian. I'm slowly getting there now - My Urien seems a bit more potent now, although I need a bit more getting used to the idea of holding back while forward jumping and such, as well as using that dead area to effect.

So, any takers on the flash bank question? I'll go back on the X-Box, now. HOO-HAH!

EDIT: ok, one FINAL STUPID QUESTION, then my problems will be sorted.

I've found that I had a copy of Slayers auto-installer around, and it has said bioses within.

QUESTION: With slayers, if I just turned the protection off, and pressed that little option to flash, would that be the be-all and end-all of the flashing process? It would be handy if it was. Anybody actually done it this way and came out at the end of it fine?

OK, Never mind, I just jumped right in and reflashed the mod with the 4983, and it's functioning fine.

Now to just hope that I don't get banned from live for using an NTSC video mode on a PAL machine for live. Anybody used this just fine?

after a few opinions, feel free to close this. Thanks!
