Buying a Jap PSP and avoiding the import tax ?

As per the title, I'm getting my DS via VideoGames+ and therefore I don't expect to get hit for import duty and VAT on this purchase.

Now are there any Jap Games retailer who will ship to the UK in C & E "friendly" cartons ?

Has anyone been hit for duty on orders from Play-Asia or Lik-Sang ?

I almost always get hit by Lik-Sang, but I've yet to be hit by P-A. Having said that, I've never really imported much more than single games at a time from P-A. To be honest, I'm not expecting to get away with it...that way I won't be disappointed!

Do VG+ mark it all down then ? I see they are sending DS/PSP by courier.. so unless they mark it down to $20 or so you will get taxed automatically by the courier company for Duty + VAT.

Unless they ship from within the UK like yesasia ???

Please let me know if you have further info... not decided which (PSP/DS) or where I am going to order from.

      Cheers

      Matt

Yep. I ordered my GC from Lik-Sang and my PS2 from Play-Asia and had to pay import duty on both (around ?40 each)

Yes VG+ do mark them down as gift and less than $21 on the export declaration.

I've never used yesasia, are they any good ?

I've ordered my DS from VG+ and hopefully I won't get caught out

Yeah I got hammered on my GC when I got it from lik-sang... I hate it when they use couriers as they do the customs bit automatically...

I get regular orders from PA via TNT, who will take a standard ?10 charge on top of import duty almost every time. I use TNT as they are rock-solid and by far the best courier Ive ever dealt with.

You could buy them off uk import shops like forbiddenplanet(anotherworld) skill2k(i personally recommend) or videogameimports might have them too but apart from that its import tax and duty.

Not a bad idea, althought I think even with the import duty and charge its going to be way cheaper than buying from UK based importer

I'm guessing that as vg+ are using couriers for the ds then people will be getting hit for tax wont they?

You could always just wait for yesasia to get them in stock and then no chance of getting hit for tax.
