    Dreamcast Not Recognising Game Discs????

I was playing through Ecco on when it got to a point where it has to load from the disc. The Dreamcast reset itself and since then has not booted an of my games. When the disc validation check is complete, the game does not start it just asks me to insert a game disc.

I have Cleaned the power supply pins and messed around with the GD potentiomer (I get the feeling I am making things worse) but I still have not success.

    Any Ideas?

Take the top half of the case off and test the switch at the rear right hand side, Its the switch that recognises if the lid is closed. Sometimes the connection can get dirty or need to be extended to complete the circuit.

This is the normal cause of read errors, Its incredibly rare for the laser to fail.

I had a messaround with the switch and it seems okay to me. I will have a check to see of it will play music disks in the morning.

Nope not playing music discs wither. I am not sure if me fiddling with the screw that calibrates the laser has made things worse or not. Any suggestions?

Make sure you're turning the screw the right way. Did it on mine, turned it 1/8th of a revolution and it worked fine since.

Kron, thank you so much mate, I've just followed your instructions and my bust-for-ages DC is now working perfectly again!

I think I'll play Shenmue now.
