Can my camera be used as a webcam?

I have a Canon Ixus V digital camera and was wondering if I could use this as a webcam on my PC. It has a USB lead so maybe I need some drivers or something......

    Any ideas?

Unless someone can prove me wrong, I'll say no. I've never heard of the ability to use a digital camera as a webcam or visa versa, apart from a couple of shoddy Creative products that came out a year or two ago.

Supposedly with the right software its possible, but due to the 3 min limit on the video recording of Canon camera's you'd have to restart the conversation quite a bit

Any digital camera can be used as a webcam provided it has a video output. What's important is the ability of your computer to capture the video stream and make it available to application that needs it. You would have the above problem with the time out though.

AFAIK there are no drivers for the Ixus range of cameras to make it a "proper" web cam though. Given you can buy these for about ?5-10, you might be a better off just getting a cheapy for said webcam purposes.

I use my digital camera's TV out and loop it back in to the computer using my TV card. This works as a webcam. Only thing is, the quality is much better than traditional USB ones and the images aren't compressed (or at least not as much) so it's a little slow when using it, forget it if the person at the other end is on 56k.

Got an Eyetoy? Use that. You can get some hacked D-Link drivers for it, that's what I used to use, until I had to wipe C:. Now i can't be arsed to locate the drivers again.
