    TV trouble

ok so heres the problem. i tried playing import games on my ps2 on TV1 and it worked fine.

but when i tried it on TV2, its black and white. the same thing happens when i watch an import movie on TV2 using my ps2. but when i watch the same movie using my xbox its in full colour.

    anyone know the problem?

At a guess, TV2 isn't NTSC compatible whereas TV1 is. You're using composite cables instead of RGB from the PS2. Try an RGB cable instead.
The XBox is working in full colour because you are either using an RGB cable with it or because its outputting PAL50/60 which your TV is happy to display.

    Right?

If not then we need more details on your setup etc.

i tried using an RGB with the ps2 (a blaze one - can the brand/quality effect the output?) but its still b&w.

the xbox is connected using the standard composite.

ive also tried running PAL ps2 games @ 60hz, and it comes out in b&w, but when playing PAL gamecube games @ 50hz its in full colour (using the normal composite)

That's because the PS2 outputs at NTSC-60hz, whereas the Xbox and Gamecube are both PAL-60hz.

As Yoshimoto suggests, it seems as though TV2 doesn't like an NTSC signal running through it.

Your blaze cable should have the switch to change between RGB and composite. Have you tried it on both settings? I would be a bit surprised if you got b&w in the RGB setting, although I'm not really an expert so I might be wrong (RGB might not work with DVDs unless your PS2 is chipped)

btw do you still want that Capcom DVD?

RGB gets rid of PAL and NTSC color coding. It keeps the refresh rate (50 or 60 hz) though. So there's no such thing as "RGB PAL 60" or "RGB NTSC" - it's either RGB50 or RGB60.

But, it sounds like your TV isn't recognizing the RGB part at all and is falling back and using the PAL60 or NTSC Composite video instead. The Xbox works because it's PAL60. The PS2 doesn't because it's NTSC.

Do you have a Dreamcast to hand that you could try on the TV with an RGB SCART cable? If you get a black screen with faint outlines of the shapes, this will confirm my theory that TV2 doesn't support RGB. You might have to press AV or go into the Menu (guessing) to enable RGB - tkae a good look through them.

If your TV doesn't support RGB you could always buy a standards converter to change the NTSC 60hz signal to a PAL 60hz one... but obviously that won't give you RGB quality so it might just be worth your while buying a new TV.

Can I ask, what manufacturer is the TV from?

Have you set your PS2 to RGB mode in the system options?

Mind you most of the 3rd party RGB cables are incorrectly wired, it's impossible to know what you have from here - only 2 things can be going on; 1. The cable is damaged and the red line is not connected, or 2. Your machine is set to YCMYK component instead of RGB in the system menu.

Your TV1 SCART socket supports RGB, but TV2 doesn't. Even if you use an RGB SCART cable it must be used with an RGB SCART socket. Your TV doesn't like NTSC via anything other than your TV1 socket.

the ps2 is set to output RGB, and it comes up in blue/green.

as most of you have been saying, TV2 probably doesnt support NTSC output.
isnt there a way to fix this or do i have to get a new telly?

Last night i was thinking to my self: RGB=Red,Green, Blue. and as the tv is only displaying green and blue, then there must be something wrong with the red wire. so i checked the cable and there was an orange wire that wasnt connected.

                      so thats probably the problem.

anyone know where i can get a cheap RGB for ps2?

Really cheap ones are available from Console Plus for about ?3 (plus shipping), but if you want a really good one, then I'd spend that bit extra and get the Blaze Ultimate Scart Cable from somewhere instead. Gameplay do them, I think.
