You'll be alright with 1Gb a day, if it's just browsing stuff and Xbox Live.

woo hoo.. bring it on... I re-joined NTL at the right time, I got a free Xbox and now i'm gonna be upping the ante on the speeds.. fook 750k.. 3mb here I come... hehe

i've never had any comeback "touch wood" regarding caps, I was with NTL at my last house and had the 1.5mb line and I kicked its ass constantly and never heard a peep from NTL

40gb cap a month is terrible!!

I just looked at my download figures and I am at 11gig this month and that is on a 1meg line and the only time I get full download speed is from private ftps.
I get between about 50-105k from bit torrents.

I suppose it depends how you like to download, if you only pull a few things down each month but want them quickly then it would be ok, but if you want to constaly get stuff then I think that a 1 meg dsl with a good provider is a better option??

They have not said anything about caps, I think that is just rumour.

NTL have had a booth set up at our local market for the last few weeks? dunno why.

Anywayz my friend started talking to the guy there about the speed updates, he basically said the same stuff as in the first post ?25 update cost, 1mb, 2mb etc.

But he also said that It is going to happen in February and there are no monthly usage allowances... so he says. 8)

http://www.ukonline.net/8000/ - though there are some dl limits and suchlike but they ain't that bad (500Gb per month I think!).

It's all the llu unbundling finally filtering through. Bulldog are now offering 4Mb lines as well. I'm gonna sit tight for a cpl more months just to see how it all settles 'cos they're gonna be clammering for our business. Any caps and they can whistle...

I find Telewest pretty good - Just got my second free upgrade (1st was 1Mb to 1.5Mb now up to 2Mb) - They don't have any caps as far as I can tell and I've well exceeded 40Gb/month since I found out about newzbin

NTL is to launch an all-out assault on BT as part of an aggressive marketing campaign against rival broadband providers.

From mid March, NTL intends to "match or beat ALL BT Broadband products on price, speed and usage allowance", according to a leaked memo posted on the NTL:HELL forums.

The UK's largest cableco - which has three million residential punters and more than a million broadband users - also intends to offer free email, security and personal webspace as standard.

As part of its new aggressive stand, NTL is upping the speed of its broadband services. From mid March all new customers will be offered the three new speeds. Current 750k and 1.5Mb customers will be automatically upgraded to the new 2Mb and 3Mb tiers of service at no extra cost.

                          NTL's 1Mb service - which comes with a 3 gig monthly usage allowance - costs ?17.99 a month.

The 2Mb service costs ?24.99 while the 3Mb service is priced at ?37.99. Both come with a 1 gig a day usage allowance, although the cableco will not be checking usage allowances "until later this year", reveals the memo.

While NTL will be promoting the new improved packaged to new punters, it will be up to existing NTL customers to approach the cableco themselves to get the upgrades at "no extra cost".

Details of this increased competition in the UK's retail broadband sector comes just a week after BT announced plans to increase the speed of its DSL service to 2Mb at no extra cost for all but its entry-level package.

Waah? Hopefully they wont have to come out. NTL customer service = ************. But a free upgrade to 2mb is very good indeed!

They shouldn't have to come out, just down to someone clicking your speed up on their system.
