    gamecube and progressive scan

sorry if these questions have been asked many times before but i cant seem to find the answers through the search option!

    anyways,
just got a 2nd hand switched jap cube today.
First thing is, it came with a scart cable?? is it not ment to come with a composite cable? i cant try the scart cable cause i dont have a TV.

Second, i got the vga cable from goldenshop, i hooked it up to my lcd but when i turn on the cube (lid open) it says frequency out of range??
I have tried turning the console on whilst holding down b but still it wont display anything.

i have managed to display vga dreamcast and vga xbox on the lcd before so im presuming the gamecube should work also?

anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?

no, japanese cubes don't come with an a/v cable in their original form.

it starts up in composite, iirc. holding down 'b' causes a prompt to appear where you need to answer 'yes'; it'll switch to progressive and you should see a picture, unless your lcd doesn't like it. the menu screen does not run in component video so you're stuck there.

only progressive scan games work in vga, you need to start up one with b held down to activate it, I dont think the dashboard (what comes on when you start with the lid open) can be displayed in progressive scan so you wouldn't be able to see it

        ah....

        thanks for the fast response!!!
i managed to get a picture now.
However, there seems to be a taint of blue??
Would this be a problem on the GC itself or on the cable?

Also in regards to the composite cable, so the original jap console does not come with any leads to display a picture?? thats pretty bad.... now i have to buy one for sound

does paper mario us/canadian have progressive scan? i cant seem to get a picture from that game? but then the disc stops spinning after a while rather than keep on spinning like my jap zelda. could there be a possibility of faulty swtich mod? aiiii..... never htought id get into so much fuss!

Your cable is from Goldenshop? More than likely one of the lines has come off the D connector (possibly green, if you're getting a blue tint), the soldering on these cables is not very good.

The Japanese machine comes with a composite cable as standard - the SCART cable you have, if it's a standard Nintendo RGB SCART cable it will not give anything other than composite as there is no RGB via the AV port. If you have a modified RGB cable (2 cables, D Terminal/Component + AV cable > SCART) you'll be able to get an RGB image.

could there be a possibility of faulty swtich mod?
No. The switch mod will either boot the machine in US or JPN mode, it wont have any other effect while the machine is on. It's most likely due to the fact it's sitting on the prog scan option screen and cos you cant see it you cant select.

but then no matter if the switch is up or down, it manages to boot my japanese version of zelda??
