GC - JP Soul Calibur 2 & Progressive Scan

    Hi guys...

sorry if it has been answered before, I did a search but didn't find any answer.

I've received the VGA cable from golden shop and hooked it to my Japanese Gamecube and my CRT VGA monitor. When playing F-Zero I am booting with the B button, then there is a choice of menus in japanese, after a few random choices it gets me to the game in normal-graphics mode. Somehow when I put the memory card in, I have access to a better-looking mode, probably progressive scan, where I get a clearer image with a better resolution.

When playing Soul Calibur 2 however, I boot with the B button and get a menu displaying a text and the "A button" icon... I press A and gets the game in "normal" mode, not progressive scan. How can I enable the progressive scan mode so that I can get the crisp graphics that I have with F-Zero?

    Many thanks.

If you're using the VGA cable you usually only get a picture if its outputting a progressive signal.

If you DON'T hold B do you still get a picture on your CRT?

Try a game that doesn't support prog scan. If your VGA cable is working correctly you won't get a picture.

When you can press the A button, can you move to the left to select something else with A?

Thanks for your help so far. I have taken some pics with my digital camera so you can see what I'm speaking of.

When I power up the GC I don't get any image on the CRT until the game loads, i.e. I don't get the GC logo. I assume it's normal.

When I start up the game, no matter if I press the button B or not, I don't get any picture on my CRT until I press any button and this menu shows up in Soul Calibur 2:

The weird thing is that in F-Zero I can get two different pictures quality as I explained. Here is the first one, when I don't put my memory card in:

Then if I start the game with my memory card inserted, I get this picture quality which has a better resolution, a bit more aliasing but more detail:

What is happening here and how can I enable this "better mode" in Soul Calibur 2?

          Thanks.
