    Xbox Live Help

I require some help with regards to setting up Xbox Live. I have a USB Broadband modem and my ISP is AOL BB. Not the ideal set up I know. I'm also using a straight RJ45 cable to connect my Xbox to my Network card on my PC. From here on in, I am pretty much stuck. There is nothing at all in my network connections panel in windows and I have no real idea on how to set it up from here on in. Any one kind enough to offer assistance please?

    Cheers, Chris

I had it working with AOL fine in the summer. Just now I have completely forgotten how to set up the ICS kind of stuff I think.

Anyone able to offer any assistance? It recognises that the cables are connected but now says DNS not found. Any help would be appreciated.

You'll need to setup ICS. If you've got a network card and it's installed then it will be in network connections.

Does it appear in device manager?

All I have in the Network Connections bit is "Incoming Connections (No clients connected)" and "Virtual Private Network - The Internet (2) (Disconnected).

I don't have much of an idea on how to set these things up

The network card is connected but I don't think it is installed. It doesn't appear to have any drivers installed and I haven't a clue where the box and installation stuff is for it :/

I assume we're talking about XP here?

Go into device manager (start > control panel > system > hardware tab > device manager) and see if there is a network adapter installed.

If it's not, XP might already have the driver for your network card. You could just try the add hardware wizard and see if it detects the card is there.

Yeah it is XP. Under the Device Manager I have two items under Network Adapters. One is my USB ADSL Modem the other is an unknown device. It says that no drivers are installed and XP doesn't seem to have them on the PC. I guess I'll have to have a look around for the box.

OK, so the unknown device is your network card.

Open the PC and take a look at the card to find the make and model. Get the drivers from the manufacturers website.

Once you've done that, configure ICS (just type 'ICS' into help and support on the start menu for instructions if you're not sure how) and you should be fine.

Its an Intellinet Active Networking NIC. The website is http://www.intellinet-network.com

My card is extremely basic but I have no idea which drivers I would need :/

Cheers for the help so far, much appreciated.

Click on support at the top and then PCI network cards (assuming that's what it is). You'll need the model number so you know what drivers to download.

Not taking the piss, because I am **** with anything like this but I am also on AOL and it does give advice on how to connect your XBOX on the broadband link on the front page of AOL. I am nipping into town in abit to get a cable to go live myself but your problems have started to worry me. This is from AOL.

How to configure Internet Connection Sharing
                              1. Sign on to AOL
                              2. When you have signed on, click on the Start menu button, then move your mouse cursor to Settings, then click Network and Dial-Up Connections. The Network and Dial-Up Connections window will appear.
                              3. A small window should now appear showing some icons, of which one will be called Local Area Network, and another will be the connection you use to connect to the Internet, (Internet 2). If you do not have at least two icons, your PC is not able to act as a Microsoft ICS host. Check to make sure your network card is installed correctly.
                              4. Assuming you do have at least two icons, select the icon for your Internet connection, for AOL this is Internet 2 connection. This should be the connection you wish to share. Right-click it, and then click Properties.
                              5. In the Properties dialog box, click on the 'Advanced' tab and then click the check box stating you wish to enable Internet Connection Sharing.
                              6. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.

With these steps completed, your PC should now be configured to share your existing Internet connection. If you have not already done so, now is the time to set up the cable connections between your console and PC.
