    Xbox YPbPr VGA Box

    any good ?

    I heard its s-video quality

    #2
It should be better than s-video as it is converting a component signal to RGB. It doesn't support progressive scan modes though but I'd guess the quality would be alright (not as good as the Dreamcast VGA or modded VGA cable for the Cube)

    Loads of info here.

stay away from it...not good. it downgrades the picture quality of your games. if you ise it side by side with a television you will see that the television has better picture quality. using this VGA, the colours are washed out and dark. i am warning you now, STAY AWAY FROM IT!!! you will waste your money.

a good solution is a VGA box from KGasper or digital-x. they convert xbox signals into VGA which is almost as good as DC VGA. if you own a US xbox or a chipped PAL xbox, then these transcoders are the best.

taken from my post on avforums.com

I just ordered a component -> vga converter from HERE to use on my sony crt with my xbox.

Well it arrived and it is basically a Key-digital KD-CTCA2, LINK , it looks the same does the same thing, and even calls itself a KD-CTCA2 in the user manual.

        the price $49us !!!!!

ordered with the official hi-def pack (xbox) and a Gamecube 12v car adapter and it cost me $130 including 3 day insured shipping.

Before anyone asks, the quality if superb, I can't tell the difference between this and the key digital.

far better than any converter or scaler as you are getting more info into the picture rather than just doubling what is already there.

            no thats another ****ty scaler,

            1pcs X Progressive VGA Box US$49 = US$49

you need to put that on your order, I cant see it on their site now, maybe mail them and ask if they still have them, they did on friday

maybe send a pic of the key-digital unit with your email so there is no confusion.

oppps, i blabbed too much about transcoders on xbox there.

but still redant's VGA box must be avoided. i tried it on xbox and ps2, all i can say is that it was awful on monitor.

as for the key digital vga, i am not sure about it as i have not seen it working but some people have tested it and its not as good as KGasper's or digital-x's vga. and you don;t need a high def pack if you are using you xbox.

anyways, its your choice, i have digital-x's vga and i am very happy with it using my US xbox. i will soon be having KGasper's external VGA which is compatible with xbox and GC. i will sell my digital-x'x vga once i got the external one. so watch the "For Sale" forum in the future.

                    Hi there

I am interested in "KGasper's or digital-x's vga" as the key-digital unit is regarded as the best component -> VGA transcoder this side of $5,000, with the exception of one other that I just cant remeber the name of.
One thing that the key digital device has in its favour is the auto switching between 480i, 576i, 480p, 576p, 720p, 960p, 1080i.

it can handle all the HDTV formats where most of them fall down at anything above 480p or start to show their bandwidth limitations anyway.

Info on the 2 you mentioned would be appreciated as I like to try anything new

                    thanks

                    G

                        gizze,

but still digital-x's or Kgasper's transcoders better performs the key digital one. in terms of quality in picture through your monitor those two are the best in the converting prog scan signals to VGA signals.

finally the key digital's transcoder(the original one) is far too expensive that the others. i think somewhere between $200 to $250.

Have you got some info on these transcoders, I am always up for trying out new products and these sound interesting ??

here is a review from an extremly knowledgable person on the avsforums in the states.

                          HERE IS THE LINK

And I totally agree with you that if you are only using 480/576p then there is little in it between transcoders, but it is when you get to 720p and 1080i that the differences show up.

And ?280, the UK price on the key-digital is alot to hook your ?130 console up with, but at $49us it looks a little more tempting
