    Katamari and GTA:SA

Just got a new thin PS2 (never had one before) and have a couple of questions...

Is Katamari Damacy going to be released in the uk anytime soon?

How long into GTA:SA is it before the extra cities open up? I'm just crusin around killing people mainly, but as far as missions go i've just killed all the russian bikers with the T2 style truck antics and taken over glen park.

Oh, and any 'essential ps2 games' threads around here?

You're probably going to find this moved into the Videogame Q&A section of the board next time you return.

Katamari Damacy> Namco "currently have no plans" for a PAL version, so don't hold your breath.

For some reason I was expecing some kind of comparison here, but seriously - forget GTA3:SA - Katamari Damacy is the best thing on the PS2!

Unfortunately it doesnt look like its coming out in PAL land.

I think I must have been one of the only people in the world not to 'get' Katamari Damacy. Perhaps it was because when I bought it I was really disinterested in games but I just got bored very quickly of repeating the same things but it just increasing on a bigger scale. I admit I never got to the end because I was so bored with it, is it worth going back to it now I am back into gaming a bit more? Lovely presentation though.

I am really loving it, but if it didnt click with you before I doubt much will change.

Its not exactly a big game though so you could quickly put it back on and give it another go .

I think your only a couple of missions away from the second city in SA, then there is a big gap between the second and third city.

Thanks for the replies. I have now made it to the second city, or trailer park in the middle of nowhere. Suprising since i usually hate the repetitive nature of mission games, but i've only had about 3 fails so far. All i'm after now is a sniper rifle and a good camping spot overlooking a nice long suspension bridge at rush hour.

And that's a damn shame about katamari. It looked like it had the same kind of fun appeal as pilotwings.

is there a region-freeing disc you can use like CDX or Freeloader for PS2?
Or do you just have to buy a Jap one.... :/

There is one, but it requires you to pry open your PS2's tray every time you load a game (no kidding). Which, needless to say, is a Bad Thing.

Get it chipped, there's nothing wrong in doing that if you're not playing pirated games (believe it or not, that's what I do -- zero yarr games in my collection, baby!) and it's much cheaper than buying 3 consoles.

Also, Katamari is an absolute blast, especially when the US version costs 20 USD.

Just wanted to correct this statement - ICO is the best thing on the PS2, Katamari is 2nd best

*and the reason I paid ?200 quid for a chipped PS2 even though I already had a UK one*
