Routerless XBL set up Help Needed

    'Lo.

Just bagged myself 20m of CAT5 cross over cable, in a bid to get myself going on the 2 month free trial of XBox Live that came gratis with my copy of Halo 2.

As I understand, I can circumvent the need for a router by connecting my Brick directly to my PC and assigning my 'Box's mac address to my internet set up. I understand this in principle, but haven't a clue how to actually put this into place

Any chance any of you nice brainiacs can walk me through the process with liddle baby steps? I'd be very grateful of any help that anyone could offer

(if theres already a thread existing that explains this, a simple link would be excellent!)

    Cheers again!

I`m a bit of a noob as well, when i had my usb modem set up with bt I just had my laptop signed into the web lobbed a crossover lead into the xbrick and into the lan socket on my lappy and let live detect itself.
    worked everytime.

          Its not going well.
You're going to have to pretend I'm retarded, I'm afraid. As mentioned, I'm with BTYahoo and wish to avoid the router malarky an connect directly via my PC. I've acquired a poo load of CAT5 cross-over cable and tried signing up. However, I'm getting the message:
No DNS server addresses were received from the DHCP or PPPoE server. Enter your DNS server(s) provided by your ISP on the network settings menu.

I'm going to cry soon Can someone walk me through it. Literally. Every step of the painful way? (Please) *puppy dawg eyes*

Try right clicking on your net connection and sharing it with other devices on the network (or whatever the exact phrase is)

It took me ages to figure out at first, and that is all i was doing wrong

I've obviously been lobotomised at some point, but where ever I click, there doesn't appear to be an option to "share" I'm obviously clicking in the wrong place. At this rate, I'llprobably be online with XBL by the time videogame has progressed to some funky thought tranference devices ?_?

              HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!

Raven, whenever I've had to ICS, I've had to manually put the dns numbers into my computer & xbox manually. Search some topics by bignige, its Apple mac related, but isn't that different to pc.
