    Yet another Plasma Thread.

Couldnt really work out where to put this, so, sorry in advance Mods if it has to be moved.

Mrs Sarkster and myself are buying our first house at the moment and she has kindly agreed that I can have a plasma screen for my little games den in the spare room once we move, im hoping to mount it in a wall in a convenient place to use as a PC monitor (wireless kb and mouse, natch) and for consoles as well.

So, the question, then. Do I need anything in particular to get a decent sharp image from a PC onto a plasma (im thinking resolution-wise, here) and secondly, are LG plasma's any good? I saw an advert for their new Hi-Def Plasma's last night and they looked nice.

Also, any other plasma buying advice would be good too

    Thanks

Plasma's usually have a VGA in by default. DVI is better though if available.
Just a cable from PC to Plasma will do the trick.

LG? Dunno myself. With all that cash to spend I'd make sure it was a Panasonic or Pioneer I was buying tbh. If you do a quick search in Q&A or TV subforums for 'plasma' theres plenty more info.

    Jammy bast ;p

      LG are muck.

If you really want to use it as a PC monitor, you'll have to go for either the Pioneer or the high definition Panasonics..

However, they still look pretty crap on the higher resolution screens, as they come nowhere close to the resolution you might be used to on a smaller screen..

Sarkster, how much are you looking to spend on your panel? I've got a high definition panasonic plasma, and the picture quality is absolutely amazing. Films, Games and running a PC through it look, just stunning.

I'd seriously be looking at the pannies, with a DVI input for your PC,and then Component for your games. Not sure what else you'd want hooked up to it mind.

didnt really want to pay above ?2,500, but tbh, I have no idea what I can expect for that outlay

With regards to what id be hooking upto it. well, the PC (DVI) for a start, then 2 Xbox's, a DC, PS2 (eventually) and Gamecube, and possibly a TV tunerbox wouldnt go amiss either.

To be honest, if you are going to be using the PC all the time for PC stuff, browsing the internet and stuff, just stick with the screen you have at the moment for it, and get whatever plasma you so choose for all the rest.

Believe me, the results from a PC arent great..

007 seems to suggest otherwise. Whats the problem with PC's thru Plasma, then?

It all depends how used you are to the resolution you are using on your PC at the moment.

                What resolution are you on?

Its mainly the resolution - even the hi-def panels "only" have a resolution of 1024x768, and the screens are massive.

If you are used to using your PC on a much smaller monitor with a much higher resolution I would expect it would look a little rubbish in comparison on the plasma.

Exactly - such a relatively low resolution on such a big screen looks really bad for PC stuff, as it really isnt designed for that sort of stuff. Edges look all horrible, words blurry etc, and the widescreen aspect isnt really worth the bother...

Better to stick to your PC monitor tbh.

ahh I see. but I would have thought games loaded with AA and AF (like HL2) would look the tits on it, no?

Maybe then, keep the monitor but occasionally jack into the plasma for certain games?

There's a guy on this forum that can get the same Panasonic plasma that 007 has for ?1400. 100% legit.
The plasma don't come with video boards only a VGA connection. You'd need to buy the boards seperate.

Thats the PWD6, 007 has the PHD6, which has a higher resolution.

That's the Standard Res one boss.

You'd probably need some sort of component switching for your component inputs, as it looks like you'll have 2 xboxes for progressive scan, and then a gamecube with it too.

I'll take some pictures of Halo 2 and some other games to show you the quality on screen
