Intel extreme graphics arent really the best gaming platforms dude, dont think HL2 will be quite the same experience with minimum details and reduced physics

Run it a few times and my 2.6ghz, 256mb ram and Intel graphics, XP SP2, Direct X9 gives a best of 938, ouch

PS. Can't get Doom 3 demo to run NOT in fullscreen now.

That score surprised me although I can only guess:

          1. The Mobile Pentium has a 1MB cache (edit: this version anyway, newer ones, Dothan, have double that) which is double the amount on the normal P4 (I believe, but I may be wrong on the P4 figure and am happy to be corrected)
          2. The 256MB's of Ram limited the result on your machine.

Although based on what I've seen and as mentioned before, I don't hold much hope of getting these games to run 'adequately' on this gfx chipset. The lack of Hardware T & L seems to be the killer.

Good luck if you keep at it though.

best result I got was 1239ish when going down to 800x600 and 16 bit textures etc, still miles behind .....

Given up on Doom 3, it did run OK all lowest settings and 640x480 resolution, would have been better if not fullscreen but couldn't get the fullscreen option to work in the settings. Never mind, HL2 will have to wait until the Xbrick release.

              run on this PC

got score of 1,573 on default settings (1024x768 etc) about 60% higher than my lappy with same processor and memory.

Hoping even a cheapish AGP card will bump that upto around 10,000

With a 9700/9800 ATI class card your 3D Mark score will definately get better.

OC'ers quote a score of 5000 for the 9700np/Pro in 3D Mark 2003. I assume your HP PC has an Intel P4 (northwood/prescott core - 478 socket) of somewhere inbetween 2.4 - 3.4Mhz? The link on the other thread didn't state the CPU speed.

                  Mgear it's a 2800 processor.

Also, can anyone tell me the command to run the Frame Rate Benchmark in the Doom 3 demo please.

didn't want to start new topic, what does
                    "Expansion slots (AGP/PCI) 1 AGP, 3PCI, 1 PCI Expansion" mean ?

is "1 PCI Expansion" just a typo ? it's not PCI express is it ? don't know what PCI-E slot looks like and can only see 3 PCI & 1 AGP slot on pic of motherboard on linky below.

                    thanks.

I don't know in all honesty, although I know that particular chipset doesn't include/support PCI Express (no motherboard currently supports both AGP or PCI Express ports, you have to upgrade the GFX Card and Motherboard in one go for this). I did find this guide on spotting the different type of PCI card slots, of which yours has three standard 5V ones:

Only thing I can think of is that if this so called 'PCI Expansion' is used, it consumes all the available bandwidth(?)...although I'm guessing. Anyone else?

Btw which Graphics card have you bought in the end?

Mgear; You'll have to PM me your email addy (if you want !), I've run a few tests - with and without card and game benchmarks and put them into Excel.

know exactly what you mean, 20 mins of Quake 3 the other night and PC FPS bug bit me, as much as I love my lappy (you can't beat watching 24 in lunch hour at work) I will get another desktop PC one day soon.

ATI's best portable option is the Mobility Radeon 9800 GPU and Nvidia have just realeased the Geforce Go 6800 GPU. But both GPU's perform around the mid-range level (x700 & 6600 Series) rather than matching tho top end cards.

These both play games well, but I want a desktop again. I can build a Athlon 64 + 1GB + 6800/x800 class card all on a 17" TFT, cheaper than the best laptops. Also it's all upgradable as well. Personal preferance of course, but once I'm settled again soon I'm off to spend some money.
