    GC RGB Cable?

OK, from reading a few threads around here it seems I'm really missing out on image and sound qulaity by not having an RGB cable.

    2 Questions:

    1) Will it really make that much difference? The picture looks pretty good to me, I can't really see how it can improve.

    2) How do I know I'm getting a real cable (If iwant to get a cheap one)? Is the one (?45!) being discussed in another thread neccessry for a PAL cube. What about this one:

    or this

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...category=20389.

Any advice appreciated. (obv. i'm a bit newbie!)

If you could buy a ?5 RGB cable for a NTSC cube I don't think anyone would be paying ?45 for one. I think they have it wrong when they say it works on any cube

jabberwock1977 it really is worth using the best possible video display method for your games. It really is a waste of a potent console to ruin it's display by using composite cables.

The NTSC Gamecube does not output an RGB signal - the reason for the higher price is due to the conversion of the machine's digital video output.
The cables you have been looking at for ?5 will work on a machine which outputs an RGB signal. The cable I sell takes the digital video signal, converts it to analogue RGB and takes the sound + sync signal from the standard AV port (it's 2 cables)
There is another variant - Lik Sang sell what they claim is an NTSC Cube RGB cable - but what it is in fact is an AV to RGB convertor which takes the composite AV signal and outputs a VERY dirty RGB signal (the quality is actually worse than composite)

On your other consoles it'll be much cheaper to get an RGB cable. For PS2 you will pay ?5 to ?15 in the shops or you can even pay up to ?50 for an extremely high grade cable.

If you want the best out of your machines you need to use the correct setup.

I've tried Saur's cable on a PAL and NTSC cube, and its identicle in its out put. Personally I got the RGB SCART cable to bypass any NTSC issues and crap teles. Which is has done to mind bending effects. Doooo ittttt you know you want toooooooo.

jabberwock said he's got a PAL cube, so I really don't think 9x the price is worth it. The main market for the hack cable is getting an RGB signal out of NTSC cubes. The PAL cube produces an RGB cable as standard. With the more expensive cable look better? Yes. With the difference be worth ?40? I don't think so, no.

crap cables DO make a difference - when I turn the sound up high on my Saturn I can hear inteference in the sound - the cable is so sub-standard that sound deteriorates at high volumes - I should probably do some reading up and try and make a better one.

For the price of one game you are getting a huge leap in sound and picture performance - there are IXOS cables for PS2 which I imagine are good except they have been pulled due to 'technical difficulties'

Didnt realise he had a PAL Cube - I would not recommend a modded cable for use with a PAL machine anyway.

Why havent you bought an RGB lead already man? They are only a fiver!

OMG Man - trust me those IXOS cables ARE worth the price!!

The best PS2 cable to get for the price are the transparent blue ones sold in HMV etc now. They are unbranded cables which are bought and repackaged by Blaze etc - unlike the rest of their stuff, these are GOOD!

When I buy a new console, the first thing I get is a RGB lead, then a game. You'll never look back!!!

I have loads of IXOS cables throughout my set-up 8) just using a cheapo PS2 RGB scart at the moment - I'm thinking I could do with a better one though, will have a look for that one.

If I know the pin-out to a console and have a quality scart lead I can hack can I just make a cable? Is it that easy or am I missing something? I fancy a better lead for my Saturn as there are no good ones around.

                        Yeah you can

But for consoles like PS2s which have a custom AV port - you will have to get hold of high grade versions of the correct plug. No idea where you can get stuff like that from, I just ordered the IXOS PS2 RGB lead - cost around ?40 (but it's LUSH)

Thanks for the advice all. Perhaps shouldn't have posted about my PAL cube in an import section of the forum - i seem to have mislead a few people..oops - just seemed like the most suitable place to post.

But, my second question still appllies, how do you know whether it is actually doing the job (except by subjective judgement). I remember ages ago getting an RGB cable to play NTSC games on my chipped PS1 and i got through 3 similar looking cables before one worked.

can anyone reccomend a cheap one, online store or otherwise, that works well?

Sweet I'll give it a try then - only want it for the Saturn, if that goes well I might try something for my Multi-Mega.

Just looking at a pic of the IXOS PS2 lead looks like some serious heavy duty equipment - almost worth buying on looks alone

There is a purple cable from a company called Venom, look out for it.
Or order one off an online site like www.videogameimports.com

You will instantly know an RGB image if you havent seen one before.
