Plasma Resolutions

Looking at getting a new Plasma,

now i preffer consoles on low def displays, but im guessing the low def displays cannot do 1080i(im guessing they can do 720P), or do they scale it to fit the screen?

So am i better off going with a high def or low def. Also i like to use a PC on it for games, and sitting in IRC, as i currently use an ALIS panel this is fine, would i be forced to run 800x600 on a low def display or could i run 1024x(whatever the wide screen res is) and downscale it (ill adjust the font's so its readable) i dont require it to be pinpoint.

They scale (when they say "853 x 480 (can handle 1280 x 1024 inputs)" they mean they scale down to that res).

You deffo need the hi-res displays. Low res are a waste of time and won't be any good for Hi-def tv and dvd.

damn the high res displays bump up in price, ill wait to see what others say, as i dont watch TV on it, and dont really watch DVD's tbh. Apart from subbed anime and the odd dvd i havnt watched one in years.

Sorry, but thats just wrong. I've seen 720p inputs scaled down on my Panasonic PWD6 (a waste of time apparantly? could have fooled me, and many others on this forum who have recently purchased one), and they look absolutely stunning.

Hi Def TV? I'd love to see how long that will take to become a reality (by reality i mean an AFFORDABLE alternative to analogue/freeview) We here in the Uk are incredibly backward with these types of things.

ill agree with that, i still cannot get Freeview or anything resembling a decent signal for channel 5.

by the time we get high def here, we will all be using oled's.

scuse me, can you explain what "scaled down" means? if a normal rez plasma can do 720p then I can save myself ?1600 on my new panel

Yes it can do 720p images, but scaled down to fit on its native resolution.
