    Half-Life 2, Half-Life 1, Valve and Steam...

Gota couple questions about the latest craze, quite obviously the recent release of HL2.

    1. What is Half-Life 1 : Source?

    2. Is the SDK with HL2 not the full version? eg, not all the textures and objects?

    3. When is the full SDK out?

    4. Why is HL2 so god damn finger licking good? (dont have to answer this)

    Cheers guys, Mark.

I thought they had just released the tools for the SDK and not the full SDK itself

" Source SDK Tools Available Now
        November 5, 2004, 1:52 pm ? valve
Valve has released the Source Software Development Kit (SDK) Tools via Steam. A precursor to the release of the full SDK, which will be released shortly after Half-Life 2 is made available, the Source SDK Tools release offers a comprehensive toolset for starting production on Source-based MODs, including Hammer, XSI EXP for Half-Life 2, compiling tools, the Source Model Viewer, documentation on programming, modeling, building materials, and more. For more information, please visit www.valve-erc.com/srcsdk/ "

quoted from the link at the top, basically I don't know much about modding and all this SDK business, but from what it says in the article the full sdk is yet to be released. I believe this bit of news answere two of your questions. And for the third I'll just say that Half Life: Source is basically the original Half Life but with prettier water and some physics thrown in. I believe it still uses the same models and textures etc.. as the original.

I think HL1:Source is a bit of a rush job though, ran a lot slower than HL2 on my mate's PC yet looked the same as it always did (only the physics have changed i think)

HL:Source is a very, very slightly updated version of Half Life 1 running on the Source engine. It looks and play identically, apart from ragdolls on the characters, some slight enviromental lighting, and some nicer water. You'd be hard pressed to tell HL1 and HL:S apart most of the time...

wasn't sure where else to post this now the Official HL2 thread is gameplay only but Valve has banned a lot of players from using pirated copies of HL2 according to BBC. Personally I think this is only a good thing
