    s-video cables and 60hz

Are there any known problems with this combination?

Got my dreamcast connected by VGA to a projector, looks lovely but was gutted when Bangai-o wouldn't load in VGA mode. So I picked up a 5m s-video lead as an alternative, plugging it into the socket on the blaze VGA adapter.

It works fine (and rather confusingly I now also get a 14:9 aspect ratio mode on the pj) but when I put Bangai-o into 60hz mode it goes all screwed up. It's like someone's chopped the picture into pieces and rearranged them.

    Why would this be?

Dreamcast is detecting that you're still running it through VGA (as it's plugged into a VGA box) as far as I know. You'll need a proper Dreamcast s-video cable (not entirely sure they even did them...) or it's compo****e for you! :\

On a side note, does it work in Scart RGB?

You can definitely get an s-video cable for the dreamcast a mate of mine has got one.

I don't think that's it... the Blaze VGA adapter has a seperate switch that changes between VGA and Video output. So the S-Video output is only enabled if VGA mode is turned off.

You didn't flick the switch after turning the Dreamcast on in VGA did you? Maybe the projector doesn't like PAL60, is it a PAL DC you're using?

Yeah, it was a PAL DC - that's the most likely reason behind it. Anybody good with technical explanations of why PAL 60 would be a problem? I might change the xbox back to PAL and see if that has any problems as a test...

Because PAL-60 is not an official broadcast standard (ditto with NTSC-50). Some Plasmas and projectors don't like PAL-60 on auto detect mode. Check your projector manual and see if you can force PAL-60 (or even PAL, NTSC 4.43 or PAL-M) this may cure it.
