    Which console?(opinions wanted)

    Heya

The advice given to me in this forum is usually stellar so i have quite a big question

Out of the pstwo, gamecube,ds,psp which would you buy?

Big question but i'll explain a bit about my question

I was gonna go for a psp but since i havn't a ps2(only xbox) i thought i'd be better off with one of those, easier to get, more games etc.

Then i thought of the ds,i havn't had a ninty console since the nes or a handheld since the gameboy colour but i then wondered whether i'd be better with a cube, more games(for now) easier to get

With stock stockages though which means no bundles for the pstwo and i also read in these forums of members getting faulty consoles i thought of a cube instead which is dirt cheap.

I love a good platformer, which the xbox is chronically short of atm which is one of the main genres i would buy i new console for ,beat-em ups are my favourite genre though and i would buy and complete alot of these,i also like sports games in particular tennis as smash court 2 on the psone and virtua tennis are 2 of my favourite games.

I also am big on importing and would like something that is easy to deal with in this area, this would be very important .

Any help would be great, just keep in mind i only have a pc,xbox atm so which one out of the four in your experience using would you buy if you hadn't any(psp,ds aren't available widely yet though so don't worry about those).

I dont think you can really compare a handheld to a console. Eg you cant compare a DS to a PS2. Completely different kettle of fish.

Youv got an Xbox which means that youll have the majority of the games that have been out for the PS2. The GameCube is superb for their first party titles. Notably of recent Metroid Prime : Echoes and Paper Mario.

The PSP seems to suffer very heavily with the battery and its been said that its going to be like a PS2 with all the same games coming out for it. However, you havent got a PS2 so it might be worth considering a PSP but a more sensible option would be to get a PS2 if there is a huge difference in price between them.

Xbox and GameCube are the easiest consoles to play imports. With the Xbox some titles are region free and can be used on a normal unmodded Xbox. However, most arent so to get the most out of the import scene with the Xbox you will need a modded Xbox. The releases of Xbox games are normally simultaneous or even earlier in the UK so for imports id go with a GameCube. Games like Animal Crossing took years to come over here and they are famous with their release dates where by a game comes out in America and doesnt come out over here for months after.

The DS itself is a big hit with importers due to it being region free. I cant say much on this due to being quite biased but I will reserve judgement until mine arrives. Suffice to say its going to turn portable gaming on its head and take it in to a new direction.

In terms of money the Cube is excellent value, however does suffer with 3rd party software support, saying that the Xbox has more 3rd party. Your more likey to play 3rd party games on an Xbox if you one rather than buying the PS2/Cube version (i did with Burnout3). Now the PS2 does have its own exclusives (well a for few months anyway) like GTA.

2nd hand prices of the PS2 will be coming down as people trading them in for the PSTwo.

As for importing, well a chipped PS2 works superb. A cube works o.k. with freeloader, but some titles have problems. I got fed up with this so i imported a Japanese cube so no worries about that anymore.

As for the hand helds, i'd wait and see. I'd guess more platformer on the DS as its nintendo but the PSP will have its fair share as well.

        Eh? Thats just crazy talk

There are literally tons and tons of top quality games that will never ever see the light of day on the XBox.

If you are talking about multiformat rubbish then you might have a point, but the PS2 some amazing exclusives that i wouldn't wish to miss out on.

it's a common misconception that the xbox is so "mainstream" it gets all the titles the PS2 does.

Tbh save urself the effort and jus get all of em (gradually over time obviously hehe)

I think I get the most enjoyment out of my Cube, and right now its very cheap. The Cube is also an easy console to import with, what with the Freeloaded.

It lacks Beat ?Em Ups, but has Smash Brothers and Naruto.
As for Sports Games it has Mario Tennis and Mario Golf.

Erm? I hope I haven?t put you off, but the Cube really has got a lot of great games just look over the Reviews

Yeah well the multiformat rubbish comes out for Xbox and PS2 so I was meaning that by enlarge the games are similar apart from first party efforts and games like halo, the getaway etc.

It's an impossibe question as most members of the forum own more than one console and will say it goes in phases. I am hammering my Xbox at the moment after it spent the summer gathering dust while I was glued to my Gamecube.

I think it's good thinking to have either an Xbox and Gamecube, or a PS2 and Gamecube. Gamecube has a lot of awesome 'fun' games which are very absent on other consoles.
