O.TO.GI 2 - I'm a pathetic weed!

Despite browsing gamefaqs and studying its guides sagely, I'm having NO luck at all completing two early levels - the one with all the spider-like things/eggs, and the one where you have to destroy all the boats before they get away. Tried lots of different characters with no joy - I always seem to just peg it on the former and flail around in the water to no real effect on the latter. Grr.

Any thoughts? (On how I'd improve my chances, as opposed to on how crap I obviously am at this game). As a useless non-japanese speaking importer I haven't managed to get to grips with the upgrade items screen either and I think that might be the key tbh but any general advice would be gratefully received!

Its been such an age since i last played this... I'll try and remember as best i could.

For the exploding egg stage i used Raikoh (or Wolf-Man) and just bashed away. Though be aware that in the big section (with the large statue, there are some stuck on the underside of the cave) which caught me out a few times since i thought i had destroyed all the eggs.
Apparantly not as it would seem.

For the boats, i used the Axe guy and used spammed his attack on the massive 'drum' of the boat, then airboosted away to the next one.
Repeat, rinse and dry.

Cheers man. Just tried again with the wolfman and didn't even get past the second room on the egg stage though. Hohoho! I'm obviously slowly losing any videogaming ability I once had to old age. Currently considering taking up gardening.

Gah, thats it.

Use the Tree-thing-dude with the ships wheel stuck to his back.
You dont want physical attacks on the eggs, or else you'll end up hurt.
Since he/ it uses the wispy dagger attacks it should be ok.

Another thing is that he seemingly has infinite air-boost abilities, so he should deal with the high eggs with relative ease compared to the others.

You're right. Geektanic, you're a genius - I did it with relative ease in the end.

The boat level on the other hand is really twisting my melon. Mainly because I keep locking onto the bad guys when I want to be making my way to the next ship - and I get the feeling that I could do it if I invested time in getting better at it. That's no good! I want to do it in a half-assed, non-commital way, without having to expend any effort at all!

I've tried looking at the usual sites for release dates. But unfortunately there is no date set.
It's already out in the US of A, since October 19th.

I posted the PAL release date last time that question was asked, but can't remember exactly what it is and can't be arsed checking. Some time in February, I think. Do a search through the forum or check the Sega Europe site.

Its been a while, I think I used the wolf guy and gave him the powerup of being able to jump high so when I get hit down its easy to get up to a level where I can attack the boat. Then I just airblasted as fast as possible to the next boat and repeat. Its tricky, but theres a lot harder to come
