Will a USB SP charger work with a DS?

Well, since Nintendo confirmed you could use the SP mains lead on a DS, the USB charger is no different, its just drawing its power from a different source. There is absolutely no reason why it wouldnt work.

My stepdown i use for my GC is making some hideously loud noises whilst charging the DS. It sounds like it could blow at any time.

Then the stepdown must be incredibly buggered, since the DS charging would draw a tiny fraction of the power needed for a GC.
