PS2 Component Cable - works with PSone games too?

Odd question, but just making sure. I can play PSone games using the Component cable?

I've been trying to play a couple of pal PSone games on my pal PS2 via component lead. I see the PS1 boot logom but then I gets nada. The PSone games are loading behind the black screen as I can hear the drive spin after pressing X.

What's going on?
