    Supanet

They have a cheap Broadband offer on at the moment, anyone used them?

I was with Pipex and swapped over to SupaNet 2 weeks ago. My connection is 1meg and really fast, the upload is 512k, and it all seems great so far.

?23 a month is a great price, I recommend them whole heartedly.

You may have seen my post about the problems with my Broadband. It has nothing to do with my ISP, it's something to do with BT and the exchange.

Worst thing ever. do not touch supanet.

      charlesr says:
I went round to my Grandad's in Brighton instead
      charlesr says:
      Installed Supanet Broadband
      charlesr says:
      worst thing ever
      charlesr says:
couldn't understand why it wouldnt work
      charlesr says:
turned out if you read through all the documents they send you, they give you a dial-up pay as you go thing, which when you get your broadband usb modem and line-activation letter though, you have to use the dial-up to visit the supanet website and activate your broadband account
      charlesr says:

      charlesr says:
      worst thing evar
      pob says:
      (swearing removed)
      charlesr says:
me, not reading the documentation, is just tapping in the user and password and wondering why it keeps telling me they are incorrect
      charlesr says:
      (swearing removed)
      pob says:
that's quite (swearing removed) extreme overload
      charlesr says:
Eventually I gave up and rang them
      charlesr says:
"please key in your home phone number"
      charlesr says:
      ok easy enough
      charlesr says:
      tap his phone number in
      charlesr says:
it doesnt notice because he's got a phone from the 80s with pulse dialling......
      pob says:
      hehehe
      charlesr says:
I realise this and decide surely if I just leave it, it will eventually go "he must have pulse dialling" and put me through to a person
      charlesr says:
      but no
      charlesr says:
after 3 times of telling me to tap it in, it just hangs up
      charlesr says:
      (swearing removed) (swearing removed)
      pob says:
      ..why..even..bother
      charlesr says:
So I completely rewire the phones in his house so I can use his wireless phone
      charlesr says:
      which does have tone dialling
      charlesr says:
      It finally works and says.......
      charlesr says:
"There is no new service registered at this phone number within the last 30 days."
      charlesr says:
"please try this 50p a minute number instead"
      pob says:
      ....
      pob says:
      .
      charlesr says:
      (swearing removed) me
      charlesr says:
      (swearing removed)
      charlesr says:
turns out it took them so long to (swearing removed) organise everything that more than 30 days had elapsed since he ordered it.
      charlesr says:
      (swearing removed)
      charlesr says:
They activated the service on the 3rd
      pob says:
      ...run away
      charlesr says:
you'd think it would be 30 days broadband setup support from the activation date
      charlesr says:
      but no.....
      charlesr says:
      (swearing removed)
      charlesr says:
so after giving up with the phone cos 50p a minute is uber rubbish, I read the docs... hehe
      charlesr says:
used the dial-up to actiavate the account (lucky he had a normal modem............)
      charlesr says:
I'd be screwed. Dont have a normal modem

        That sounds crazy!

I have been with Supanet since October 2004, and it's been 95% plain sailing. Their customer service is quite poor though, but luckily I haven't had to contact them much.

I have now migrated over to UKOnline though, and should have my 8meg connection in a week!

          Supanet are officialy teh suck.

I have been on Supanet for the last 6months, and although the service has never gone down, it is often worse than a 56k connection at peek times, sometimes to the extent that I can't even get on MSN.

Another reason not to go for Supanet is that their support is all in India, and they don't have a ****ing clue if you ask them something that isnt written infront of them.

Just to point out that having a service center in India isn't automatically ****e. But there are ****e service centers in India as well as everywhere else (my company's India service center is frankly astonishingly good, although I doubt it comes much less than half the price of a Euro center). But yeah, if their service center is a poor uber cheap one, avoid like the plague.

I wouldn't say its poor and uber cheap, but if your having a problem that isn't necessarily your end, and doesnt involve plugging your pc into a power socket, then your not getting anywhere by phoning them up, which is quite depressing.

That said, they do phone you monthly to check if their services are adequet, while at the same time trying to flog you some cheaper phone calls scheme

I remember when I had them when I was on 56k a few years back.... Dunno, if they have changed but I had rubbish speeds, endless dropping of connections and their customer service left a lot to be desired. Be warned

Theres plenty of cheap isps out there...
