PS2 and Matrix MXL2 chip, Component Video

Hey there, got my PS2 that I'm very pleased with and have it connected over Component. It's modded with a Matrix MXL2 chip and I have a very minor question.

I can't watch DVDs because the component output is scrambled. If I set my Component output to RGB instead of Y/PB/PR I get the same effect, basically I get a picture with no sync scrolling everywhere. For the start of PSone games I get the same (over the Sony Computer Entertainment screen), but the visuals become clear as soon as the "Licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment America" screen appears so that's no problem. It works fine over the Composite Cable.

This doesn't bother me really because I already have a (better) DVD player right beside it, but I'm curious to see if I can get this to work over Component at all.

Is that a pstwo with a matrix ship or the original? I've seen some on sale modded but heard bad things.

      It's the original, SCPH-5004 (I THINK - it's definitely a 5000-series.)

What happens if you use an rgb scart cable? (to an rgb device)

Haven't yet tried an RGB cable, none of my friends who own PS2s have one so I don't know when that'll change.
It was quite a shock to see all the system menus in something other than Composite for the first time!
