I heard SLI wouldn't work with all games.

All the new ones though and a 6800 Ultra will basically hammer anything old that doesn't support it anyway, so I don't see the problem.

?800 for an almost inperceptable increase in frames (sure, the count will be more, but you wont see much difference) O_o you must be a) single, b) ****ing hatstand or c) a fruitbasket combo of the both

Yeah but who wants to play Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 at 1600*1200 4*AA and 8*AF with no frame drops at all. MEEEEE

SLI is just a waste of time and money. The next gen card will work out cheaper and faster than the SLI option.

Bleeding edge PCs have always been a waste of money.

                  bah humbug!

So its the "Wait for the next card" post. I know why don't I just wait until 2010 when there will be a faster card out? Or maybe 2011 so that its cheaper? You actually have to buy a card at one point and buying the best one means you don't have to fork out one for a while.

Here, though, you're being unfair. Its quite remarkably unlikely there will be anything to give SLI'd 6800 GTs a serious workout until the next card comes out the door.

So just buy one for now, and by the time there are games that actually feel slow on it, a second for SLI should be a lot more affordable.

They reckon that a second card will improve performance by 90% - alledgedly.

Having SLI is overkill imo. An X800 XT PE or 6800 Ultra is more than capable of handing any current or upcoming game for a while.

The smart move would be to spend ?300-?400 on top of the range card and put aside the extra ?400 for the next gen card.

See now thats not a bad idea however having a spare slot for another graphics card might just push me to buy another one pretty quickly after

See I have this horrible disease where I have to buy the best thing I can possibly afford, technology wise. SLI might not be sensible, but it certainly is better from all the benchmarks I have been looking at. At times over 70% increase in frame rates at 1600*1200, and thats with the GT.

Oh and sorry about the tone in my last post, it was a bit sour. Probably cos I know your right
