Since I bought it 2nd hand it was already completed with 9999 points

Try holding down L + R + B + Start when you turn it on.

Worked for my JPN mario kart this smorning.

Open it up and take the battery out ?

I dont think there is a way of doing it anyway. You only get points for completing the game and doing some of the challenges, which allow you to play Akuma, so you havent missed out on much

There is no battery inside, its using chip something or other memory ft:

Turn it on/off/on/off loads of times. That used to wipe a few of my snes games

not sure if youve solved this yet, but I just cleared the memory on advance wars by pressing L button, right on the d-pad and select. It then asked if you wants to delete saved game etc etc. Give it a try.
