Forget the rest. Street Fighter 3: Third Strike from the SF anniversary collection is easily the winner.

        + Plays the best. XD
        + Top notch animation.
        + Cool tunes.
        + The parry system.
+ You can play the old SF2.
        + It's cheap.
+ The online play is virtually lag free.
+ Works fine with pad convertors online.
+ Comes with the SF anime movie.
+ It's the beat em up that most people on here play. So you have peeps to chat too.
        + Received a 9 in it's recent ntsc-uk review.
+ Dedicated fans are allowed to have one of my custom made avatars! XD

Guilty Gear X2. It's fast-paced, technical yet easy to pick up, stunningly beautiful (with top-notch chara design and fighting techniques to boot), and it features the best soundtrack ever heard in a fighting game.

(then again, I may be biased, as I never liked Capcom fighting games)

Of course, there's always Soul Calibur 2 if you (a) like teasing Saur (because they crippled the parry system to make it easy enough for us noobs to use), or (b) you're a hi-def whore.

              Pick up SF:AC.

Alternatively, pick up KoF2k/2k1 at the same time as SF:AC from an online source, because combined they're about the equivilent of a full price game. Then get back to ordering the rest the week after, as all of them are so inexpensive you should be able to get the cash from underneath the couch.

              SAVINGGGGGGGGGSSSSSSSSSSSSS

ps. yash, make a random ibuki avatar for me when i get back plzZzzzzZzz :-D

watch as all the SF3 fanboys/vermin appear.

But without a doubt go for AE over the others.

I would say Rise of the Robots though if it was released

i've got anniversary collection and i love it to bits. it's taken a bit of stick ('scuse the pun) with regards to playing on the xbox pad, but i'm managing ok. i've got a modded saturn astro and it's a dream to play it on that, but for quick bashes i can't be arsed so just use the pad and still it's ok, but the d-pad is super stiff however. still, i've started playing as alex now and can wipe the floor with most peeps as a result (although i'm super cheap and my super move always comes out just as i'm getting hammered!)

i liked capcom vs snk2 as well, but i'm not good at snk fighters (i play them like i do sf) so i get beaten most of the time!

as for offline fighters, umm, i'm not getting the kof's as they're not online, so i don't see what the point is if i have them on the emulator already (besides i like 96-98 more than the newer ones)

I like Soul Calibur 2, it has it all, and is quite cheap now.

You could get both Streetfighter and Soul Calibur

Simplygames.com do Streetfighter for ?22.89 and you can get Soul Calibur 2 pretty much anywhere for around a tenner.

                            Another vote for SF: Anniversary...

Worth it just for 3rd Strike. CvsSNK is nice if you like big, splashy fighters but it's a waste of space for "serious" play. It's too imbalanced. I still like it, though, just because I can pwn Ken's ass with Terry's redneck boot.

Soul Calibur 2 on Xbox sucks purely becuase it has twice as much McFarlane in it.

Please pause for a moment whilst I swallow a mouthful of reflux. *bletch*
