New To Street Fighter III : Third Strike

I know this might sound like a stupid question but how do you parry?

    Cheers

Tap towards your opponent for standing attacks & down for low attacks (I think); someone far more knowledgeable than me will be along in a minute - it's all in the timing of course

Parries basically work like this: holding away from your opponent means you block as usual but, if you time it correctly, a tap towards the opponent as they strike you will result in you parrying the blow, leaving you in a position to attack for a split-second whilst your opponent is undefended. Parrying can be done for high and low attacks, and also in the air. It is extremely effective but very difficult to master, relying as it does on both split-second timing and a certain amount of gambling arrogance: time it right and you can achieve a better score and a counter attack.
Basically you tap towards the enemy just as you are about to be hit.

And remember, for multiple hits, tap forwards at a steady rythm, half the tempo of the attack.

Best bet is to go into training mode > parry training > select akuma twice with SA1. Throw fire balls from across the screen at the CPU, throw in some HCB + FP to practice the timing for multiples, and if your brave, the SA. The CPU will parry EVERYTHING you throw at it, until time up.

        Then do it for yourself.

It's not a bad as it sounds honest!

I might as well hijack this thread, now that parrying has been explained, to something more advanced that I read in the SFIII threads:

What's this red parrying all about, then? how is it done, and most importantly of all, does red parrying hold any advantages over the normal parrying, or is it just willy-waving++?

I've had a thought that it's something like (near) perfect timing like just frames (T4, rofl), but i'd rather just clarify it now. ta.

              Willy waving really.

Basically, when someone throws a multiple-hit move (like Dudleys HCF+P) if you block the first few hits, then parry the last one, you'll do a red parry. I don't really find it that hard tbh.

ah, right then. does that include parrying all hits on an EX move, like an EX hadoken? or are they just branded as EX and you get no 'LOLREDPARRY!!11' ?

Aye, I think it works on an EX hadouken. One sec and I'll try

Aye it works with an EX hadouken. Dead easy as well

Works on a normal hurricane kick as well, but the timing's harder.

                      It's a parry after a block.

You can perform multiple red parries by blocking in between each parry.

There's some absolutely norty parrying going on in the latter half of the 'Are You Satisfied Yet' vid by SFmaniac43 over at combovideos.com XD

ah, ok then. I couldn't remember if you could or not due to it being a two-hit EX move, I haven't played it in a while. need to order a sodding wireless adapter... and get my assignments done, obviously. 0:-)
