Xbox Live Not Found @ teh Uni.

I finally cracked. Its killing me having Pro Evo 4 here and the leagues and everything else going on is wanting me to desperately to get on damn Xbox Live. I went through the Xbox Troubleshooter and was given the green light to all the options eg cables connected, IP, DNS etc but apart from the last one Xbox Live Not Found. I'm not going through a router because I'm at Uni. I'm just plugging the ethernet cable directly from the wall in to the back of my laptop / Xbox. What more do I need to do? I'm assuming theres no problems with the set up because everything got the green light. It suggested ICS aswell as a router set up but do i need this?

Cheers for your speedy responses, I wanted to play some Pro Evo tonight

I suspect that the UNI firewall is blocking the ports that XBL needs.

I would ask them if they could open them up to allow you access

Lol really doubt that happening. Please Mr Computer Centre could you open up ports X Y Z so I can play some games online.

in that case you are out of luck, ICS won't work either as the connection will still be firewalled

You only need 2 ports opening up, just have a word with them, they may do it for you. Its not going to jepordise their network security in anyway

No, it'd say "modified xbox error" if you were banned.

All you can do is ask them to open the ports, there's simply no other way around it.

                  ? UDP 88
                  ? UDP 3074
                  ? TCP 3074

That should do the trick I can't see why they won't let you, unless they are just complete twats and it's "university policy" only to use the minimum ports needed.

Seriously though how could I ask them. If i say its for online gaming then they'd definitely not allow it tbh.

There's nothing else you can tell them. Them ports (as far as I know) aren't used for anything else apart from Xbox Live. Just do a google search on TCP 3074 and it'll come up with loads of forum posts about Xbox Live, and your network administrator only has to do the same thing to put two and two together.

Just ask them really nicely and hope, tbh. :\

You could stress that it doesn't use *that* much bandwidth, isn't illegal and isn't a security risk either...
