    Help configuring router

I've got a Netgear DG384G v.2 wireless router and I've currently got it linked up to my desktop PC in the other room wirelessly on a Netgear wireless pci 'g' network card.

Tonight I tried setting up an online game of PC Pro Evo 4 with my mate and I couldn't get online with my friend at all.

It kept saying that my ip is 192.168.0.2 which I'm sure is wrong.

How can I configure my router so that I can play PC PES4 with my mate?

Also, how do I disable my hardware firewall from my Netgear DG384G v.2 wireless router? My friend said this might be the problem but I couldn't find any option to disable it on the Netgear config screen.

Thanks in advance to all replies.

If you type http://192.168.2.1 into your browser window, it should take you to the router setup page, where you'll be able to turn off the firewall.

Word of warning, if you disable the router firewall, you'll be inviting all sorts of nasties to come infect your pc- the sasser worm springs instantly to mind, unless you're running a fully patched and up-to date version of Windows or running a software firewall.
Best thing to do is find out what ports you need to open in order to play pro evo online, and just forward those ports.

Don't turn off the Netgear wall, it's fine. Don't know about the v2, but on my earlier 834 you put http://192.168.0.1 into a browser to get to the control panel. Username and password is in your manual.

In fact, all this is. What you simply need to do is browse the PES manual and find out which port it uses (or browse the website or hell, just fart arse about on google until you find it) and then, in conjunction with the manual, forward the particular port to your PC's IP address (it's all well explained).

For the love of god, don't turn the wall off.

All outgoing connections are allowed on the DG834 so the firewall isn't the problem. Could be that PES doesn't work through NAT?

Does this game work online by players joining a server based elsewhere? If not, and it requires that you host the game yourself, then you need to allow the necessary incoming connections for it to work.

He said he tried setting up a game of PES, which means he's hosting.

You need to open ports to host.

              Do as I said, mate.

Fook me this is getting geeky for me...

Is there no way for me to play with my friend?

When I try to host it keeps timing out and it insists that my ip is 192.168.0.2

When I tried joining on my mate's ip it kept timing out as well!

Also, I found somewhere on settings that the PES4 port is 5739 which I have enbled in my router settings... It still don't work! :-(

Define "enabled in your router settings". Better still, attach a screenshot of the ruleset you defined for the port forwarding.

Might also be worth checking the PES site to see if there are any issues being behind a NAT.

OK what you need to do is thus:

Goto LANIP setup, and go to the bottom of the page (address reservation)marry up your mac address with 192.168.0.2, or whichever ip no. is easy for you to remember. If you dont know what your mac address is, go to start, run, type in "cmd" without quotes, in the dos box type "ip config/all" (again minus quotes), somewhere amongst all the guff is your mac address. Or, within the router goto attached devices, you'll see your pc name and it's mac address listed.

Next go to services, click add custom services, for name, use evo4 (or whatever, doesnt really matter so long as you can identify it), for type, you need to find out if its tcp or udp, if in doubt use tcp/udp . For both start port and finish port bang in 5739. Click apply.

Ok dokey, now goto firewall rules.
In the top half of the page, under outgoing services, click add.
                      Under service, you want evo4.
                      Action allow always
                      LAN users any
                      Wan users any
                      Clcik apply
On the next screen, make sure that enabled is ticked, along the row for evo4

Alritey, at the bottom, for incoming services, click add
                      Service select evo4 again
                      Action allow always
Send to LAN user, input your ip address, so 192.168.0.2 if you've been following my example.
Send to wan users put any.
                      Clcik apply.
Back to the firewall rules page, again, make sure enabled is ticked for evo4 incoming connections.

Click apply and you're done! Dunno if its the proper way to forward ports, its what I do and I've never had a problem thus far!

Also, its probably a wise idea to disable the xp or any other software firewall you've got running, so that the connection can poke thru ok. Whilst its prudent to have a double tier of protection, you'll also need to forward ports through those as well.

And if you're still awake after reading thru this post pls bear in mind that I think I dozed off whilst typing it hence the typos.
