Chronicles of Riddick (PC director's cut)

I never got on with the Xbox version, but this "director's cut" version for the PC has me intrigued, and I think I'd prefer the keyboard/mouse setup. So... on the off-chance anyone has picked the PC version up, how is it?

An important point that I'm interested in is how well it runs. I've read people state it's a complete dog to run even on a high-end setup, a la the PC conversion of Halo.

    Any word?

I'd be interested to hear about this as well. Riddick was a cool game.

I loved the xbox version. Apart from a section in the mines it was a joy to play . I like the sound of the developers commentary in the game. Comments appear as objects in the game which you click on and listen to the reasoning of certain things.

Well, the first impressions are astounding. The improvement in textures, resolution and general clipping make for an awesome-looking game. Won't appease the haters of normal mapping, of course, but all that raggedy-edgedness of the xbox version is a thing of the past.

Runs extremely well on my system at 1280x1024 with settings maxed, provided I don't touch the AA settings (which hits the FPS hard).

Will post further impressions later. Can already tell I'm gonna fall in love with this game all over again.

VERY interesting aside, btw - the game install contains 64 bit runtime files and libraries.

Excellent impressions - Just what I wanted to know.

Looks like I'll be picking this up soon.

I have an AMD Athlon 64, so if the game can run in 64-bit that's great.

              Woot!

Sounds like a must-get for me. I don't mind starting all over again, it's good enough to play through again anyway.

Just took some screens - have had no noticable slowdown whatsoever with these settings, even in combat.

I'll link for the benefit of 56k users.

Before I realised I could get away with AF turned up:

                  It's certainly good looking game.

Must... resist... graphic whoredom! Must not spend... money I... don't have... hnnnnngh.

edit - Out of curiosity for anyone who's played it... how's the conversion to PC? I've got a pretty up to date machine, but experience has taught me that that Console to PC conversations are usually the height of ropeyness.

Probably a frame of reference with Half Life 2 (or possibly Doom 3, looking at it) would be good...

Those screens appear lush to the extreme. I wouldn't say the texture detail is anywhere near up to the standards set by Half-Life 2, but the aesthetic design looks far more pleasing to the eye than the jagged-up mess of the Xbox version of Riddick.

An excellent review, that along with the Eurogamer review, have pretty much made up my mind.

                        I just tried it today.
Bear in mind that I've never played the XBox version.
I've just got time to type up some quick thoughts.

I was stunned at first. I heard it was good, but I was honestly expecting something barely passable.
There's nothing to suggest it was an XBox game at any stage. The graphics are gorgeous. I actually play with it looking like those screens, and my machine is miles away from cutting-edge.
As for the gameplay, it's really interesting. It's one of the more original FPSs I've played lately. You have as much freedom of movement as a third-person action game, the first decent melee combat ever seen in an FPS (apart from maybe Jedi Knight) and some satisfying first person shootery. The characters have that comforting solidity that so many games lack. Overall, the presentation is fantastic.
