I was fancy and slipstreamed all my drivers into my XP CD

Hard drive, graphics card, network, sound etc. All up to date when I do a clean install. It also installs all my programs for me aswell

Got any links on how to slipstream drivers like that? You'll be saving me the effort of Googling!

Great site for slipstreaming. It's basically a big guide how to make your windows XP CD install unattended. While I wasn't willing to let it format and set up my partitions I let it do everything else.

The guide for putting your sata drivers into the CD is here:

I have made CD for my mate and it totally does everything itself. Just put in the CD and about 30-60 mins later you will be on your new desktop

Same here mate, I also have a shuttle and literally was able to boot off the CD and install without a problem. You have changed the bios to boot off the CD right? (dumb question I know..).

Thanks demon9k, that's just what I was looking for!

Marcus and Neil are right afaik... I'm told that XP comes with a generic SATA driver but I would imagine it's better to install one specific to your motherboard chipset if at all possible.

Just some info on the side: the driver disk that normally comes with the SATA disk is mostly only needed when you want to enable RAID with two SATA disks (for example during your Windows installation).

Yeah, that is possible if your motherboard has native sata. Other sata solutions require that you install drivers from floppy disk during windows setup.

problem solved guys!!! Those idiots at micro direct had forgot to connect the power supply to the floppy. I had it built so didnt know what to look for. After that the drivers from the mobo manufacturers were enough to install the SATA.
