    Norton Firewall Help

I sorted out a friends pc but one little annoyance remains - They have Norton Firewall installed and it keeps popping up asking whether to block or allow...

    svchost.exe
    ccProxy.exe
    iexplore.exe

Now how can I get it to allow permanently - It doesn't seem to want to play ball!

    Cheers

Normally in the pop-up box that appears there is the option to 'always allow' that service - isnt that there? I dont have it installed anymore (using a router) so am going from memory only.

The options are "Permit Once" or "Block Always (Recommended)"!!!

Also Internet Explorer at least is already listed in the allow list - And CCProxy IS the Norton Software FFS!!!

        Any other ideas?

          Uninstall Norton/reinstall Norton maybe?

Remove all the instances of Internet Explorer from the Allow List, and try it again. If you're not getting the "Always Permit" option, I'm presuming that the user account isn't set up within Norton to have administrative privileges. Enabling the user account as a power user or administrator within Norton will no doubt help.

If you actually go into the configuration menu for Norton Firewall, you can force it to do a program scan. Once you have done this you can instruct Norton Firewall (or NIS, same difference) to automatically configure settings for apps it knows about and deems safe (these are generally it's own files, IE, essential network transports etc etc). This should remove the need to confirm the apps you mentioned all the time. Another thing to check is that he hasn't got the firewall settings slider set too high, doing this could cause the symptoms you are seeing (i.e. confirmation required on pretty much all low level traffic etc).
