Played the demo, found it a bit "meh" to be honest.

Could be my rig, but to me, it didn't seem to flow like it's console iteration. As I said though, could be my rig. (1.8Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 9700 Pro)

I hate playing console games like this on a PC - had PES3 and it got played twice or something. I'd much rather play the xbox/ps2 versions - Even online doesn't beat 4 of you sitting round the sofa with a few cans playing 2v2.

Regarding the online part of PES4... it's some of the best fun I've had in ages. You don't get droppers because there's no online league table and statistics, and with the online client mentioned above, it's very easy to find other players.

We should organise some matches on here sometime! \o/
I ran it on a machine with lower and similar specs and encountered the same problems on both. To require a PC with that kind of spec (remember we are going back about a year) to play a football game that ran better on the PS2 is a bit of a joke. It has to be my worst buy in a long while. Kudos to EA Sports for once, at least they can write a football game that runs on moderately specced hardware.

I've got pro evo on the xbox and I'm more than happy with it.

Thanks for the tip on the PES4 demo folks. I downloaded and had A LOT of fun playing it. Not a single graphical glitch and actually maintains the smooth gameplay of the PS2 version. My specs are Athlon XP 2500+, 512 MB RAM, and Radeon 9700 Pro. Game works like a dream. No lagging. I'm gonna get a USB controller and the game as soon as I have enough cash.

Hmmmm, I really enjoyed PES3 on the PC and never had any problems with slowdown. I've gone for PES4 on the Xbox and its fantastic, even moreso since I got the patch for the kits and transfers. But I have to admit it looks stunning on the PC. Might have to invest in a copy to see how it compares.

It's a shame you encountered the slow-down problem - it seems a few people did. PES3 and PES4 run smoother and faster than the previous 2 versions of FIFA did (I only tried the demo's though - but they were dreadful) on my PC. In fact I even managed to get PES3 playable on a Geforce 2MX 64mb when it was released with a little tweaking.

PES3 had problems with certain graphics cards, it wasn't really slowdown, but the game moved really slow (if that makes any sense...). they released a patch which fixed it though I think.

Anyway, PES4 on PC is indeed by far the best version. I had been playing it for a while when my friend bought the Xbox version, I was shocked at how bad it looked really. Very unnecessary imo, I'm sure if Konami would have put a little more effort in it it would have looked much better.

I guess the market just didn't justify a complete graphical overhaul for the Xbox. I was struck by how nice PES3 looked when you turned up the graphics, so I'll probably pick up a copy tomorrow.

Next conundrum is which controller to use. I know the dualshock is the preferred choice amongst old-hands at the game, but I really like the analogue stick of the Xbox.

You can go into the game and just map the buttons.

                          Sotty, misread you post.

                          I use R1 as dash.

Here's a picture of my button config anyway - surely all you have to do is change Button 7 and Button 6 ?

My mapping gives me exaclty what I have on the PS2.

Wow, just played it on the PC for the first time with the Wolf patch installed and it looks stunning. Nice to be able to play it at a high res and the patch is just the icing on the cake. Highly recommended although I can't get used to the Dual Shock, might try to get an Xbox connector.
