    Windows XP blue bar freeze

Windows XP blue bar freeze. I tried to find an answer on the net to find out why this is happening but cannot exactly find one. My mate put in a new mother board when my computer was not working and realised this was not the problem so put the old one back in. Tried booting XP but 8 times out of 10 it freezes on the blue bar why?

Sometimes works no problems and goes straight through to XP but other times not is it a power issue? How can i solve this problem any ideas? It lets me start Windows normal but 8 times out of 10 does not get past the blue bar. Also my computer has a new Power Supply in cus the old one blew up.

    Cheers

IMHO, swapping a motherboard without a format is bad news(tm) - driver/resource conflicts and so forth.

Other's may disagree, but I'd say during the 20% of the time when it does boot, back it all up and format it.

I'm in firm agreement with Stu here. Windows XP is very particular about chipsets present etc, and is liable to halt/blue screen on bootup if used on another different hardware setup. It sounds like yours has got it's proverbial knickers in a twist. Either boot into safe mode and uninstall all hardware in device manager and hope XP can re-jig itself or backup your data and reinstall. Earlier versions of windows were quite happy with being booted up on different hardware (simply prompted you for drivers), but because of the way XP has been optimised (I know the word optimise is probably the wrong word to use with a microsoft product) it does get messy.

Its started up fine about seven or eight times, now so perhaps has un twisted its knickers so to speak can only hope.

Call the guy who built your computer (I seem to remember it was custom made . . . ?) and ask him what hard drive he's put in there (unless you already know). Go to the manufacturer's website, and they should a file on there which you can download and put on floppy to boot from which will let you completely wipe your hard drive.

Obviously you should back up all your files before you do this. Then wipe the drive by booting to the floppy, then reinstall WinXP with your discs, and put all your backed-up stuff back on there.

          Hope that helps.
