    TNT crushed my PSP

Prepare yourselves for a sorry tale of woe...

Inspired in part by the gushing tributes on this forum, I cracked and ordered a PSP on Monday 20th Dec (Payday for me) from Play-Asia. On Wednesday afternoon, TNT left a crushed box outside my doorstep. The PSP packaging was flattened. The unit itself has a massive dent in the back which you can see here:

This is what the whole package looked like:

I have informed both Play-Asia and TNT about the damage. At first I had no photos to send them, but then used up a film in my camera, had it developed in Boots and put on to CD, and emailed them what you see here.

Does anyone have any idea what my chances are of Play-Asia sending me a new unit in a reasonable period of time? Or should I just go ahead and cancel the payment on my card? Any and all advice appreciated.

    ****...That must be heartbreaking

I would have thought that Play Asia will send you out a replacement unit pretty much as soon as they get your broken unit back. From personal experience they will get your old unit collected by their own courier and sort it from there.

The only problem you might have is if Play Asia marked the value of the package down at all. If so then they (and therefore you) are only covered for the value stated.

Let us know how you go on.

EDIT - I think that cancelling the card payment is a bit unfair...After all this is TNT's fault and not Play Asia's.

i reckon it will take time as it looks like TNT's fault

but i wouldnt cancel the payment to play-asia - its not their fault and you got the PSP you ordered

        Well that's my dilemma:

I paid the Play-Asia price to have the PSP now, even though it's expensive. If it's going to take a few weeks rather than a few days (EDIT: by this I mean not getting a replacement PSP by the end of January at the latest), I might as well get it from somewhere else who will no doubt charge less, once the prices start to come down.

I've read elsewhere that Play-Asia have refused to mark PSPs down in price because they were so expensive, and I certainly didn't ask them to do so. One thing is certain: there is no way I am paying any customs duty TNT try to charge me for a damaged unit!

Yoshimoto, you said that you had personal experience of this: how long did it take for your issue to be sorted?

I'll keep you updated anyway guys. Thanks for the replies.

I've never actually gone through with sending something back to them but i was on the verge of it once.

Basically i got something that was ever so slightly faulty (still perfectly usable etc...it was nothing more than a tiny niggly problem) and Steven at Play Asia was more than happy to replace it for me. I was told that i could send it back via their UPS account so it wouldn't cost me anything to return. So it was going to take 3 or 4 days to be returned / inspected and another 3 or 4 days for a replacement to arrive. In the end i decided that i'd rather use the item for the time being and get another one cheap later on so i didn't bother returning it. I must say though that they were extremely helpful thoughout.

Surely TNT courier includes coverage for damage? So claim!

I'll be happy if they do that with me... you've cheered me up Yoshimoto :-)

The bit I don't understand Is that you say TNT left the package on your doorstep? Shouldn't It have been signed for? The obvious If devious method would have been to not tell TNT you received the package and claim for a full refund as there was no proof of delivery. Sorry about your bad luck, hopefully It will all turn out alright, the customs charge is the tricky bit to sort out.

PlayAsia are a business and they choose to use TNT. If TNT damage goods then PlayAsia must put the customer first and get things sorted quickly.

I think the customer has a right to be put first, you don't owe PlayAsia anything. I hate it when companies have the audacity to put the customers problems last.

If PlayAsia are a decent company, they will get a replacement out pronto, and leave all the hassle of the broken PSP between themselves and TNT.

At the end of the day, the customer should be happy.

Yeah as Neil said it will get resolved.

However, I know that you must sign for any damaged parcels as damaged to be able to claim.
So if you did not sign for the item at all, as in they left it in your doorstep, I would just say to them if they do not sort it out straight away you will deny it was ever delivered. Ask to speak to someone high up at TNT and tell them that you know they do not have a leg to stand on, he will quickly get the matter sorted.

Absolutely not a good idea. Don't they record some calls for training purposes? :\

Steven at PA says he should be able to ship me out a new unit tomorrow. But what actually happened with the delivery was that I was sleeping when the delivery van called (I was working nights before Xmas), and I said to the guy that I would be down in a second to sign for it, but when I got the dressing gown on, got downstairs and opened the door, he was away. So I didn't sign for it and didn't have the opportunity to check for damage. It wasn't that TNT left it in my doorstep without checking that anyone was in, but that they vamoosed without a signature before I could see that it was squished.
