Half-Life 2 GOLD Edition?

Hello.

Has anyone received Half-Life 2 'GOLD" Edition from Steam?

I have one big question - were you sent the games (HL2 and HL Source) on DVD? Or are the steam packages 'download only'?

And while I'm here - what's your thought on the GOLD edition overall? Worth the money?

How was the item sent? Did it arrive in perfect condition?

Yeh I got the gold edition.

Everthing is dl'd via Steam so you have no physical game disc as it were but you obviously have the option of backing up your files onto a disc if you want.

I though it was worth every penny, comes in a swanky, big shiny black box with the logo on the front and the extras are nice imo. Ok I know it's a Prima guide but it's the best quality one I've ever seen that's for sure. Obviously get your postcards and other bits and I'm a sucker for all that.

It was sent via courier in a sturdy cardboard box and arrived perfectly my end after crossing the atlantic.

I also own the gold edition, and the extras you receive are much stronger than the collector's edition Vivendi have put out in the UK.

You get a DVD in the retail package of course (with Half-Life: Source as an extra), but apart from that, there's a small booklet combining small parts of the strategy guide/raising the bar, and a t-shirt. It's not worth the expenditure to be frank.

For sheer value, the gold edition over Steam offers the best of both worlds. Lots of extra physical items, and of course Valve's entire back catalog. If you really need a DVD, just use the back-up function through Steam.
