    Norton Upgrade Problems...

... I try to get the URL updates which are about 28MB and it'll download about 80%, but because of the limits of my ISP I get disconnected then. Only two hours at a time

There is no resume so I simply can't download it fast enough... and I can't phone them up becuase thier opening times are during my working hours

    WTF an I do?

Give me the URL and your address (by PM) and I'll download and burn it and post it for ya.

I had sort of similar thing with Half Life 2 demo that won't resume but that was 750mb so know what it's like.

PS. you using a program like Get-Right or just right clicking the file link and saving to your hard drive ?

Is there any way to use the Liveupdate program to get these updates? Its just that you can pick and choose which parts to download in one go.

Or like David says, use get-right or gozilla to resume the d/load.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. It's through liveupdate that I am trying to download Norton Internet Security URL Update and there is no resume. I don't know a URL for the file and I don't think that there would be one as it would be a security risk. I can't see any other way to get it other than liveupdate... I was wondering whether anyone else has had this problem...

Ive got Norton on my pc, and Ive not had any problems. Are you trying to update the retail package?

Got an 0845 number you can dial in on? I know you'll be paying for 2 hours on the phone, but it's probably a reasonable alternative if you're especially keen to update.

It's norton 05 retail edition. Liveupdate keeps bugging me to update, but the file is too big to download in 2 hours. The number I have to call is 02077 440061, however thier opening hours are during my working hours... I would sugegst my family call them, but I'd be suprised if they knew what a phone was, let alone a PC.

Sorry, I meant does your ISP have an 0845 (ie. metered, pay per minute) number you could call instead? I assume folk can't login for you, download the update and then mail it to you on cdr (if I remember liveupdate correctly), so unless Norton provide it by other means on their site, you'll have to stay on line longer to get it. That, sadly, means paying for the call - only solution that springs to mind.

Oh, I see... good suggestion. I do have an 0845 number for, what I believe is my ISP, although I have a small worry that it's from another party, ultimately meaning it's probably 50p/min.

I'll give my ISP a call and see what number they give, thanks

Does the 2 hour call limit extend to fixed monthly billing systems only then?

The 2 hour limit is for these unmetered numbers, generally to stop you being on there all day (specific ISPs have various limits). On 0845 though, they don't mind if you're on there all day - in fact, I recall one time when I setup a 486 as an isdn router using this wee linux distro. All standard stuff, easy to use - except the ex dialled in on the 0845 number and left it connected for 25 hours.

                    Call cost 24 quid, heh

Anyway, I notice you're getting broadband mate.. perhaps save yourself a couple of quid on that phonecall and just wait instead
