    formatting hard drives

ok, this christmas i have been given a new pc (of sorts) by my father, it's sooooo much better than my current pc aside from one thing... the hard drive is an old 6gig jobby (i know).

anyway, my current pc has a 20gig one that i'd like to slot in beside the mini hard drive for the time being until i can acquire a bigger one.

here lies the problem, the new pc has windows 98 on it and the old pc hard drive is loaded with xp.

i remember reading that xp would load right on top of 98, am i right in thinking that? if so then how do i remove everything (including xp) off the other hard drive? please excuse as i'm not very knowledgeable on the dark art of pc modding/fiddling (i vaguely remember something like C:deltree/windows ???)

appreciate the help boys and girls!

Boot with the Win 98 start up floppy ( if you haven't got one you can create one through the control panel ) - type "format c:" at the DOS prompt and the drive will be formated after a few mins.

Change the bios to boot from the CD first (normally press delete as the pc loads) and once thats done, boot the PC with the XP disk in the drive and it will offer you the option of erasing the disk as it goes through setup.
