Should i get a Jpn PSP

After playing on Saur's today im hooked, but what will be the story regardimg the movie side of a Jpn PSP,as i dont want to get lumbered like when i bought a Jpn Q,and was unable to watch anything.
I'd not been giving the PSP much attention up till today so i probably missed something somewhere regarding the multi region compatibility.

Depends if you want to buy UK or US films really?

the Jap PSP is region2, the same as the UK, so if you would be buying UK films then it makes sense to buy a Jap unit.

Having said all that would it not be better to just rip dvds you already own onto a card on the occasional time you may want to watch a film on a PSP?

I know this may sound odd but is Jap region 2 the same as our region 2,im going on the infamous Q pal mod, which no f***er will do.
So will films be being released on the umd's in the shops, like we can buy DVD's now?

Buy UMD movies? That ****'s dead in the water.

Buy on DVD and rip to Memory stick instead.

Next question, are they multi region, game wise,or do we not know until a US game gets released?

Its been said "they are multi region...for now"

SO im not sure if that means they are planning to possibly add region protection or leave it up to the developer.

Also replicant was saying earlier that supposedly they are changing the TFT screens on U.S. and Euro models to less better quality ones (if its true at all)

Well, here's a quote from Sony's chief technology officer Masa Chatani...

"The PSP will be region-free for gaming "because people who travel around the world may want to pick up games in different territories.""

So looks like games really will be region free. Course, that doesn't mean there's no region mechanism in the hardware itself... don't think anyone really knows... but the games certainly aren't using it at any rate.

The confusion comes because of the Region 2 logo on the cover of Japanese PSP games. This is simply a region designation code though, it's not actually saying the software itself has protection... just saying that game is designed to be sold in that region.

Where did the info about inferior screens come from?

Needless to say, it would be rather foolish of Sony to remove one of the main pro's that the PSP has over the DS... no doubt Sony is all too aware of that...

Has this thread been mysteriously edited?
Also is 1gb the largest memory stick?

From what I gather, 1 Gig is the largest the current firmware seems to support, though they might support larger in a newer firmware update (you can update yourself over the wireless).

I've not tried this for myself though, mind you.
