    XBOX Live newbie questions!

    hi guys, ive got a xecuter 2.3 modded xbox, which obviously has the files on the hard drive, like the various system apps and emulators. Now im aware i can turn the chip off, but will the machine get banned from live, because of the files on my hard drive.

    Now the 2nd question is... i have a wireless network in my house, is it possible to just use a cable from the xbox to my laptop which has a built in wireless internet adapter which links to the rest of my network in my house. Im pretty sure this is known as ICS internet connection sharing?

    big thanks if anyone can help me!

    The million dollar qestion the first one mate. In theory no and id say 99% of people on here are in the same boat but then you hear stories of the odd person getting banned who went on live with the chip off,and stories of hard drive changes getting people banned(size upgrades etc..)

    2nd one sounds feasible but im no expert with pc's,someone will know for sure.

      As far as I know there's no hard drive scanning as such when you connect to XBL, rather it identifies the Xbox and matches it with the specific hard drive so that you would have problems if you upgraded the HD. It doesn't seem as though there's a 'definite' list of how to avoid banning, but you should check out http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php for further assistance in that matter.

      Yes you can use a cable between the Xbox and the laptop and use ICS, though the cable will need to be a crossover. A better solution, if you can, would be to connect the Xbox via cable straight into the BB router. Details on setting up ICS for XBL can be found at http://www.xbox.com/en-gb/live/start/.

        If you have wireless, get a wireless bridge. More expensive than a cable for sure, but much easier, cos you won't have to mess with your laptop or turn the laptop on.

                Unless your laptop or Xbox is able to switch the connectors (Which is highly unlikely), you'll need to make it a crossover RJ45 cable - straight through won't work. You'll need one like that Commander Marklar has linkied for you above.

                    disk.bin and hdd scanning...

                    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.p...c=310137&st=45

                    Other information:

                    Putting everything on F Drive:
                    ============

                    I've got an Apple-x (cheapmod) and haven't been banned so far. I've got a locked 160 gig maxtor drive, with *everything* on the F drive, and the modchip bios is set to boot from F:/evoxdash.xbe. When I boot it up by hitting eject it boots from the stock ms dash on C:. Crossing my fingers but in 3-4 days of playing its been fine!

                    Edit: I upgraded the HD several months before live 2.0 came out. I did play on live on my stock hdd with evox on E: for a while. Never had it on C:
                    ============
                    Need Slayers?
                    ============
                    so after I physically install my new HD....boot to SLAYERS and just select "FORMAT" option? Thats it....? It will install EVERYTHING? I mean all MS stuff that is needed to play like NORMAL when the MOD chip is DISABLED........
                    or do I need to copy that stuff back onto the new drive? do I need to copy ANYTHING back onto the new drive? (still unclear)

                    what option did you pick from slayers? I dont remember them at the moment..but I do remember there being quite a few to choose from.. if there is one big "F:" drive or an "F:" & a "G:" drive..that all depends on my MODCHIP BIOS correct? so v.4979.06 should be one big F: drive....right?
                    thanks ...hope your still around..LOL...this is my first mod.. =)
                    -----
                    That's it. Just plug it in and go. The only things I copied back over was my game saves which were on e: I believe. Slayers basically sets everything up. All the m$ stuff will be ok with the chip off.
                    edit: If you have a current live account, you will need to reestablish that through account recovery when you get your new drive set up.
                    Note if you're planning on importing a game that is region encoded different than that of your console (region free games like Halo2 don't count) and expect to play Live with it... there's no other way to do so other than to change your console region (which is different to video output region) with config magic:

                    If you want to use American games on live you need to change the region to Region 1 and for european games on live you need region 4. And don't forget to unlock the hard drive to change region, then save it, then lock it. You use configmagic for changing settings.

                    Enigma Screenmode is for changing display from NTSC to PAL or via versa.
                    Yes, it is a myth that the switch disc will late you boot games from other regions. All it does is change the video output, but the game region stays the same. In order to play a game from another region with the mod off you will need to use config magic (or similar) and edit the game region.

                    I must warnt you that there are risks involved in editing the eprom. You do this at your own risk
                    ^^^^
                    Be warned: I had my PAL Xbox set to NTSC so that I can use the Progressive scan video modes. I forgot to change the Region from 4 to 1 - either as a result of this, or the fact there are "foreign" files on my E: drive, my Xbox has now been banned from Live!.
