    Graphics Card Advice please

Bought this base unit other day, it has a 8x AGP port,

Any graphic cards suggestions (capable of playing Doom 3/HL2 etc) but only looking to spend about ?80 tops (sorry if this has already been asked, did check the recentish topics.)

    Thanks,

PS. Last 3D card I bought was a 8mb Voodoo 2 so I'm well out of touch

well id go for the 9800 pro if you can find one for about that much. its not gonna last forever but itll play doom3/hl2 pretty good. also depending on which one you get they great for overclocking. make sure you get the one with an r360 core if you can as these are the good overclockers. also make sure you get the 256bit memory buss not the 128 bit one. other than the 9800pro id suggest something like a nvidia 6600 gt. again another good card, dont really know too much about it though. ill have a look around and see what i can find for you.

Overclockers UK do the ATI 9700 Pro - AGP for ?91 approx on their website, which if sticking to your budget (or there abouts) would be a good card (DX9 hardware as well). Otherwise you might be able to find a 9800 Pro for slightly more, which will give some performance gain (not a lot mind over the 9700). Otherwise the next card up is a Nvidia 6600/GT and that would be near the ?150 mark.

Try this useful link on Overclockers forums:

This is about the best thing you'll get for around ?80.

As above I have the 9800pro, paid about ?120 for it over 9 months ago now so should be cheaper, havent looked back, all games play sweet on it and will be good enough not to have to upgrade for at least another 12/18 months..
