    PAL PS2 RPG recommendations...

Gonna pick up a PSTwo for the missus, she's a bit of an RPG fiend. Yea, I know, PAL and all that ****e but **** off

I don't "do" RPGs, tbh. I've no idea what's good and what ain't but it doesn't matter too much, 'cos she'll probably play it anyway if it is halfway decent.

What do you folks recommend? Star Ocean 3 is what she was mostly interested in, anything else worth a go?

Yeah, get Star Ocean 3 for sure, picked it up for peanuts at play.com and I don't regret it at all.

As for other RPGs, I would recommend Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness. It's a strategy RPG, but it's a fantastic title, with tons of fun, longetivity and depth to it. the 100-odd page thread about it in first play has more information about it, and has tons of opinions about it being excellent, myself included.

Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X are decent as well, and with both on platinum you're pretty likely to find them on a 2 for ?30 deal.

I would seriously recommend picking up a US ps2. It's what I'm doing and the number of RPG games available in the US at the moment is ludicrous, admittedly some of them have been out for a while like Xenosaga. For example I think Suikoden 4 is being released sometime soon and then there's Xenosaga 2 out next month.

Anyway I think Star Ocean 3 is a good game and I would definitely say Disgaea, one of my favourite games of last year. There's so much to do in that game, I more than got my money's worth out of it.

It's more action than RPG, but it's got enough boring plot bits for me to have given up on it, so if you want my used PAL copy of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, I'll bring it in Monday. Just sits on my shelf wasting space right now.

Another vote for Disgaea - they've got it for ?9.99 used (mint) in Gamestation Reading too!

Keep away from Grandia II no matter how cheap it is - an excellent DC game butchered for PAL PS2.

Aye, I have the DC game... not that I thought it was much cop. Missus didn't like it either >_< Gonna pop into GS tomorrow, I'll mention Disgaea.

The missus doesn't do imports ( ) at all. If it don't plug straight in and work (which a US PSTwo would, but she doesn't want one... no amount of convincing here), it is too complicated -- she's one of those types The games are her purchases, I said I'd ask rather than her register Not that it matters, it doesn't affect my gaming at all.

In defence of BGA, even though the story is not that great the game is pretty enjoyable. It's also quite short, so I didn't have time to get bored (lasted something like 8 hours). erm, not sure how much of a defence this is so far... but wait: where the game really shines is in co-op mutliplayer. This is really good fun, and it will give you a chance to play together with the missus.

Also, to give the game its dues, I'm overly impatient, and went in expecting Gauntlet.

Another vote for FFX and Kingdom Hearts here too. The first and probably only Final Fantasy game I've ever liked, and an action RPG where you can literally smell Secret of Mana vibes - a good thing IMO :P

Not played Disgaea yet, but La Pucelle's very similar to it and is out on PAL soon I believe. Oh, and is great.

Note that any Square game will have terrible borders. That includes Kingdom Hearts and the FF games.

                      Disgaea is aces, btw.

dark cloud 2 perhaps a bit more action orientated but there is plenty of rpg style leveling up of weapons nad the the taking photos of objects so you can invent stuff is smart to

got disgea (couldn't find it used though, the missus went through the lot like a rabid-chav) and star ocean.

I found .HACK to be quite average. Plot's nothing spectacular, and graphics aren't special.

I wouldn't waste your time on it.
