Help please Windows sound recorder cd sound to low

Sorry for having to post this but i'm trying to do an assignment for uni where i have to use Windows sound recorder and i've never used it before. Now the mic is coming out loud for the recording but when i try and play a CD or MP3 file, music from Windows Media Player or Win Amp the music comes out very low so you can barley hear it.

Now i've fiddled about with the Main volume controls etc but the sound still comes out really low. I've looked for another volume button for the CD player function but can't see anythin in control panel. Even looked on the internet to see if theres someone whos had the same problem. I asked a mate and he said find something that makes sound recorder, record what i'm hearing through the speakers, that would be nice but i can't find anything telling me that. Any ideas? Cheers

Double-click your sound-volume icon thing in the system tray. In the window that pops up, click options->properties. Is CD volume in there? If not, **** soundcard.

Look a bit deeper and CD sound may be hidden?

Otherwise look at the sound options in the control panel. Cd sound is usually seperate (and is often not immediately viewable in the volume adjustment settings). Of course it does depend on your sound hardware.

Goto Options/advanced controls on your volume properties, maybe its not ticked.

The volume slider for recording 'what you hear' is probably hidden. Enable it in the properties to bring it up, you'll probably find that it's set to a very low volume.

            Pic of mine: Click

It will be called something else if you don't have an Audigy card though. Best bet is enable all of them and set volume for each slider accordingly.
